Year 1 Maths Using Tens and Ones to Make Numbers to 100
Year 1 have been making different 2 digit numbers up to 100 using dienes to help them identify how many tens and ones there are within the numbers. They have worked in pairs to create numbers and then made their own numbers so they can compare them too. Tomorrow they will look at one more and one less than any number up to 100.
Reception - Maths - Sharing
This week, reception have looked at how to fairly share objects in maths. The children had to decide how to equally share out gummy bears. They used their problem solving skills to share out odd amounts and came up with some fantastic ideas about how we can share them out. Of course, their favourite part was eating them afterwards!
Reception - Maths - Exploring numbers to 30
This week we have been looking at numbers to 30. We started by discussing everything we know about 30 and the children had some fantastic ideas about how we can make 30. We then played a game using 30 counters. The children had to roll the dice and take the counters away, the person to take the last counter won! The children practised their subitising skills to look at how many counters were left, and their reasoning skills to decide what they would like to roll next!
Year 2 - Position and Direction
In maths, year 2 have been looking at describing the position and direction of objects. During the lesson the children were focusing mainly on describing how an object has moved. They used to the terms clockwise and anti clockwise and described how much the object has turned and it what direction.
Year 1 Maths Position and Direction: Turns
Year 1 have been learning about positions and directions this week in their maths lessons. On Tuesday they practised full turns, quarter turns, half turns and three quarter turns outside. The children then looked at turning different shapes using these different turns in their maths books.
Using analogue and digital time in Year 4
In maths this morning, we have been looking at both analogue and digital times. We then moved on to converting time using the 24 hour clock. We found it quite challenging but learnt a new trick to convert time quickly.
Reception - Maths - Exploring numbers to 20
This week in Maths we have been learning about numbers to 20. We have practised counting, writing numerals and making the numbers using numicon.
Year 3 Maths- pounds and pence
Year 3 have revisited the topic of money today, looking at counting pounds and pence. Considering the value of each coin or note, putting them into size order, collating totals and comparing amounts to see which is the largest and smallest.
Year 4 - Using Years, Months, Weeks and Days
In Year 4, we have kicked off our Time unit comparing years, months, weeks and days. We used our hands to help us to remember how many days are in each month. I wonder if the class can explain this trick at home. Or maybe they can remember the rhyme: 30 days has September....
Reception - Measuring
This week we have been looking at measuring in maths. We used cubes to measure the height of the dinosaurs and then we practised using the words in taller and shorter to describe the dinosaurs.
Year 4 - Partitioning Decimals
In Year 4 maths lessons this week, we are continuing our work on decimals with partitioning. In this lesson we had to use the place value counters to find different ways to partition numbers containing decimals.
Reception- Repeating Patterns
This week in maths, the children have been learning all about repeating patterns. We talked about how a repeating pattern happens again and again. The children were able to use the maths cubes to follow the caterpillar patterns on the maths table.
