Reception: First day at school
We are so proud of our Ducklings on their first day at school. They have all been superstars. They have been making new friends, exploring our classroom and doing lots of super talking. What a super start to their school journey!
Year 1 Maths Telling The Time To The Hour
Year 1 have used mini analogue clocks today to practice telling the time to the hour. They understand the different between the hour and the minute hand and that the minute hand must be at the 12 to be o’clock. They have completed other activities matching different analogue clocks to the correct times and drawing the hands on clocks to show different times too.
Year 1 Maths Measuring in Minutes and Seconds
Yesterday Year 1 learnt how to use stopwatches and measured themselves doing different activities in partners. They really enjoyed seeing how many seconds or minutes and seconds activities took. They also did specific exercises for 1 minute to recognise how long this was.
Year 1 Building Homes Jesus’ World, Our World
This week in our RE lessons we have been comparing the buildings Jesus would have lived in and around. We have built our own cuboid homes and made a year 1 village. We recognise that when Jesus was on Earth there was no electricity, houses were not made from bricks and they often had flat roofs and no glass in the windows.
Year 1 DT Baby Bear’s Chair
Year 1 have been working really hard today to try and build a chair out of only card and masking tape for a teddy bear to sit on. They have been making nine cylinders and trying to connect them with masking tape to create a suitable and stable structure. They have shown great resilience and kindness towards each other when faced with this challenge. Well done Year 1!
Year 1 DT Testing our Super Structures
Year 1 have really enjoyed testing their super structures today with heavy objects and celebrating their successes as a team.
Year 1 DT Super Structures Lesson 2
Year 1 have now finished their super structures in their second design and technology lesson using lots of cylinders. They are now ready to test the strength and stability of their finished structure.
Year 1 DT Super Structures Part 1
This week in our design and technology lessons we have been looking at different 3D shapes and seeing which shape is the strongest. The children have enjoyed testing the shapes and finding out that the cylinder was the strongest shape because it has no corners. We then started a super structure in teams using card and masking tape.
Forest Schools in Reception
We saw lots of teamwork during our forest schools session today. The children enjoyed collecting resources to build bug houses and log fires. They also enjoyed creating dens and climbing trees!
Year 2 - Bar Charts
During our statistics unit, Year 2 have been focusing on a variety of ways to display and represent findings. We have looked at tally charts, pictograms and now we have been focusing on bar charts. The children worked really hard to display their findings in a presentable way.
Year 1 DT Exploring Stability
Year 1 used playdough, card and rulers to measure the stability of different 3D shapes in partners during their DT lesson today. They looked at spheres, cubes, pyramids and cuboids and tried to measure the height at which these objects would roll down a piece of card. We compared the results in class and they were then set a challenge to create a small standing structure using the playdough and the knowledge of the 3D shapes they had investigated.
Year 1 Science Investigating Smells
Year 1 have been learning about the different human senses in science and this week we were focussing on smell and describing what different items smelt like. The children really enjoyed investigating what nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, lemon, coffee and some other different dried herbs smelt like. They recorded the information from our investigation in a table using adjectives to describe the different smells.
