Monday Maths in Year 2- Comparing Mass
Year 2 have been comparing the mass of classroom objects today. They first made a prediction as to which of the two items would be the heaviest before testing this out using the balancing scales. They then had the opportunity to test out items of their choice. Well done Year 2.
Year 4 - Science: Volume and Amplitude
In Year 4 this week, our super scientists have been exploring changes in volume and using a decibel meter to measure amplitude. They had to drop a marble on a drum from different heights and observing any changes in volume.
Reception - Maths - 2d shape
In Maths this week we have been learning all about 2d shapes. We worked on identifying and describing a circle, square, rectangle, triangle, pentagon, hexagon and octagon. The children enjoyed playing the mystery bag game, drawing around 2d shapes and making patterns using shapes.
Year 1 Counting in tens
This week we are starting to look at multiplication by counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. The children have been using number squares to help them count forwards and backwards in tens from different multiples of ten.
Reception - Maths - 3D Shape
This week we have been learning all about 3D shapes. We identified and described a cube, cuboid, cylinder, sphere and a cone. We compared these to real life objects and tried to find things in our classroom shape hunt. The children enjoyed playing the mystery bag game, describing their shape for the group to guess!
Reception - Maths
In Maths this week we have been learning all about number bonds to 10. We discussed what we already knew about 10 and the children remembered that double 5 is 10 and that we can show ten quickly and easily using both hands. We sang the 10 fat sausages song and looked at the part part whole relationship of numbers that make 10. The children used ten frames to show numbers that make 10.
Reception - Maths
In Maths this week we have been learning all about number bonds to 5. We used monkey masks to act out the ‘5 little monkeys’ song and looked at the part-whole relationship of numbers that make 5. The children then used numicon to work out number bonds to 5. In provision, children had to find keys and padlocks that made 5 and they practised forming numbers in the glitter tray.
Year 1 Measuring in Centimetres
Today year 1 moved on to measuring in centimetres in their maths lesson and really enjoyed measuring different objects in our classroom using rulers.
Year 2 - Odd and even number games
During our maths sessions we have been looking at multiplication and division and we have been exploring the relationship between odd and even numbers throughout our topic. The children explored the differences and put their knowledge into practice with a challenge game of odd and even snakes and ladders.
Year 1 Measuring Using Non-standard Measures
Year 1 have been measuring classroom objects using non-standard measures today which included dienes, cubes and counters. They compared the results when they all measured their exercise books with different non-standard methods too. On Friday we will move onto measuring using centimetres (standard units).
Year 6- London Science Museum
Year 6 also visited the London Science Museum and took part in an interactive gallery called Wonderlab:The Equinor Gallery. The interactive experience ignited their curiosity, fuelled their imagination, and inspired them to see the world around them in new and exciting ways. They enjoyed lots of hands on experiments, live science demonstrations and revealed the beauty of the science and maths that shape our everyday lives. They particularly enjoyed the friction experiment using slides with different surfaces that they could zoom down and see which one had the most friction! Kaylen said he felt like he was in heaven as he loves science!
Reception - Signs of Spring
This week we have been learning about the Seasons of the year. We discussed signs of Spring and observed the weather outside. Children went on a ‘Spring Hunt’ outside and recorded their findings. We looked at flowers and made ‘petal soup’ - the children loved carefully measuring using the teapots and teacups.
