Reception - Maths
This week we have been learning all about counting. We have practised counting things that we can’t see such as sounds during our clapping game. We then looked at strategies for counting larger groups of objects. The children recognised that we couldn’t always use our subitising skills but we can use strategies like ‘move it and count it’ to help them to reliably count. The children were given mystery bags of objects and had to count them and record their answer. Well done Reception!
Year 6 maths
Year 6 have spent this week in maths applying their knowledge of ratio and proportion to problems. We have looked at the importance of efficient maths so that we have less opportunities to make mistakes.
Numberfit Fun in Year 4
As part of our mental maths sessions we are taking part in the Numberfit sessions linked to the #Globalchallenge2023. The children complete fun challenges linked to multiplication and fitness in order to take part in the challenge.
Year 4 - Numberfit Times Tables Challenge
Year 4 are doing a great job of completing the times tables challenges on the Numberfit programme. It certainly got our hearts pumping, as well as our brains working.
Year 3 Maths
Year 3 have been using lollipop sticks to help group numbers in their maths and notice any remainders. We made triangles to represent divisions of 3 and squares to represent divisions of 4. Well done Year 3!
Year 1 Counting in Tens
Today year 1 were counting in tens using different actions, games and songs. They counted up in tens and used base ten equipment. They ended the lesson with a game to see how many tens they could score using an underarm throw.
Reception - Maths
This week we have been ordering numbers to 10. We used our reasoning skills and the words ‘more than’ and ‘fewer than’ to help us to put the number blocks in the right order.
Year 2 - Problem solving
This week in maths we are coming to the end of our unit in money and we have been focusing on problem solving questions regarding change. Children used their rekenrek’s to solve problems relating to money change.
Year 5- D.T- Parent Engineer
WOW!!!! The Year 5 class were thrilled to learn all things engineering. The class of engineers were very lucky to meet a parent who works as an engineer. He answered questions which the children had prepared before his visit. The children were inspired by to his journey. They were fascinated to learn about his job, what his job involves and the places he has travelled to in order to become as successful as he has today. He highlighted the importance of designing something first, then producing it and watching it work. The children learnt about different types of engineering such as constructional engineer and electronic engineer. The children have now been left with a project to make a floating ball, windmill, air conditioning unit, sailing boat and a moving vehicle.
Year 1 Find the Difference
Yesterday in maths, Year 1 were looking at finding the difference in partners using pegboards. The children had different coloured pegs and lined them up in rows. They each had a different amount of pegs and compared the amounts in order to find the difference between the two amounts. We have been looking at subtraction within 20 before the half term and we are finishing our subtraction unit this week.
Year 4 Maths - Finding missing lengths to calculate the perimeter
In our maths lesson today we have been working hard to calculate missing lengths in order to find the total perimeter. We found that sometimes you need to add the lengths and sometimes you need to subtract them to find the answer.
Year 6 Money Matters
Year 6 had a visit from the money matters team this week. They discussed issues such as gambling and borrowing. The children took a keen interest in the issues raised as it is something that could directly affect them in the future.
