Team Gardner - Problem Solving and Fashion Design

This afternoon Year 4 arrived at The Anderton Centre for our residential. The weather unfortunately isn’t on our side today so we had to change our activities to ensure we are kept safe.  In our groups we have completed problem solving activities and a fashion design activity where the children had to create outfits from spare pieces of fabric. The children have had lots of fun and created masterpieces that they showed off on the catwalk.

Year 4 - Anderton Centre - Dinner Time!

By tea time, we were all starving and ready for some good food. Bangers and mash or Carbonara were on the menu, followed by waffles and fruit for dessert. Yum!

Bushcraft at The Anderton Centre

This evening Year 4 took part in bushcraft activities. We learnt how to light a fire using flint and then toasted marshmallows. The children loved learning new skills and spending some quality time with their peers. It was a lovely way to finish the day.

DT Year 4 - Electric Posters - Group 1

In our DT session we finally got to make our Electric Posters. We made the circuits with two crocodile clips, a battery, battery holder and bulb. The children followed their designs carefully, choosing to focus on either the Amazon or a Roman soldier. We were really impressed with the final pieces and in our last session we will evaluate and reflect on what we found challenging and what worked really well.

Collaborative Design in Year 4

As part of our design process, Year 4 have been using their oracy skills to discuss their designs and reasons for their choices. Using their ‘Talk Tokens’ they highlight the best features of their design and what they may need to work on as well as developing peer evaluation through talk.

World Down Syndrome Day in Year 4

Today we Rocked Our Socks for World Down Syndrome Day in Year 4. We started with a special class worship, followed by a quiz to see who could remember the most Makaton songs that we have looked at in school over several weeks. Next we designed our own socks and talked about with the right support most people with a disability can lead independent lives. It was lovely to see the children developing their oracy skills through group discussion and using their talk tokens to share their ideas.

Year 4 History- Converting Anglo-Saxons to Christians

Today we looked at various Missionaries who came to England to convert the Anglo Saxons to Christianity. The children worked in groups, to identify why they came to Britain, where they came from and how they managed to convert the Anglo Saxons from paganism to Christianity.

Year 4 - Class Worship: Joy

In our class worship we looked at the Picture News story for the week about Pokémon turning 30 years old. The subject of the worship was: Finding Joy in the Journey. After discussing the story, the children worked in pairs to discuss their experiences of having fun. They used the social and emotional skill of oracy to really listen to their partner’s response, ready to share it with the rest of the class. They then listened to the Bible passage taken from Ecclesiastes explaining that God wants us all to experience and seek out joy, with the following caveats: don’t sacrifice your kindness and respect towards others in the pursuit of joy, and enjoy the journey rather than solely focussing on the destination.

Let's Go Sing 2026

* Pure Magic at the Blackburn Ice Arena! * I am bursting with pride this evening after watching our incredible school choir perform at the Let’s Go Sing concert. Seeing them out there, singing their hearts out with such passion, was a moment I won't forget! What struck me most wasn't just the beautiful music, but the sheer enthusiasm and commitment our children showed. They didn't just learn the songs; they mastered every word and every action, performing with huge smiles and brilliant energy. * A Huge Thank You * Events like this don’t happen without a massive team effort behind the scenes: • To Mrs. Govan and Mrs. Wilkinson: Thank you for your tireless dedication, your lunchtime rehearsals, and for championing our young vocalists every step of the way. • To our Parents and Carers: Thank you for braving the cold at the arena to cheer them on! Your support in the stands means the world to the children (and to us). Our children represented the school perfectly tonight, behaving impeccably. They truly found their voices! What little superstars!
