Heroes of Troy
We are so proud of our drama club for their fantastic production of ‘Heroes of Troy’. We loved seeing you all shine on stage and it was amazing to see how much your confidence has grown over the last ten weeks. A huge thank you to Miss Woods and Mr Mealor for their support and direction. Also a massive thank you to all of the parents and carers who came to support. All of the photos are available here and the recording will be shared soon. https://www.stbarnabasdarwen.co.uk/photo-galleries/heroes-of-troy-drama-club-production
Year 4 - Visit to the Rose Garden
At the start of Holy Week, the Year 4 class walked to the Rose Garden to create our Easter art gallery and then explore each class’s work. This year, each class took part in the A-Cross the World project. They chose a cross from a different part of the world and used it for inspiration to decorate their own crosses. After spending some time exploring the crosses in pairs, the Year 4 children took part in a quiz to locate specific crosses based on information from the background story or the technique used to create them. They had a great time exploring and choosing their favourite crosses.
Year 4 - PE: Orienteering
In our final orienteering session, the Year 4s were ready to explore further afield. Until this point, the children had been perfecting their map reading skills, understanding the importance of finding magnetic north and locating the start point. This session was an opportunity for the children to fine tune their teamwork skills - taking time to read the map and make group decisions about which direction to go in. The groups were given a medium route map which took them on to the furthest reaches of the top field. It was certainly an energetic session. The teams raced to each point in order to be the first team to finish, but the most successful teams were those who fulfilled their roles and talked about the locations before setting off running.
Year 4 - Science: Conductors and Insulators
In this week’s science session, the children had to set up an investigation to test different materials within their electrical circuits. Their task was to predict then test which materials would conduct electricity. We discussed first what would happen in our circuits if the material was a conductor and then the children began working to make their bulbs light. Of the materials tested, the children found that aluminium and stainless steel were conductors, whereas rubber, card, wood and plastic were insulators.

The Anderton Centre - Paddle Boarding
So we woke up to completely different weather this morning! The sun was beaming and after we had a delicious full English breakfast we descended on the lake to take part in XL paddle boarding. The children paddled for miles, played games and even managed ‘ Body Part Bingo’. We had a few slip ups and a few of the children ended up in the water. What a great way to finish our residential to The Anderton Centre. Big thanks to Mrs Araujo, Mrs Gardner and Mrs Singleton for their support and also to the parents, carers and children .
Year 4 - Class Worship: Helping To Make Peace
Our class worship this week tied together our kindness kite theme of 'helping to make peace' and phase 2 of our Linking Schools project - Social Action. We watched the God's Big Story worship from Blackburn Diocese, which was about serving others, and we drew pictures on our whiteboards to show one thing we had taken from the worship. Then we joined in with actions to the Starfish Story and discussed the things we are passionate about and that we can help to change in our community. We have shared a number of ideas and we will vote on a project to undertake in the Summer Term.
Team Gardner - Problem Solving and Fashion Design
This afternoon Year 4 arrived at The Anderton Centre for our residential. The weather unfortunately isn’t on our side today so we had to change our activities to ensure we are kept safe. In our groups we have completed problem solving activities and a fashion design activity where the children had to create outfits from spare pieces of fabric. The children have had lots of fun and created masterpieces that they showed off on the catwalk.
Team Singleton do Fashion Design
Team Singleton proved worthy winners at this afternoon’s Fashion Design competition. They especially enjoyed showing off their creations on the runway.
Team Araujo - Team Building
The 'A' Team had a great team-building session at the Anderton Centre. Our team won the girls' "trashion" show and then we split into 2 teams to do some problem solving.
Year 4 - Anderton Centre - Dinner Time!
By tea time, we were all starving and ready for some good food. Bangers and mash or Carbonara were on the menu, followed by waffles and fruit for dessert. Yum!
Bushcraft at The Anderton Centre
This evening Year 4 took part in bushcraft activities. We learnt how to light a fire using flint and then toasted marshmallows. The children loved learning new skills and spending some quality time with their peers. It was a lovely way to finish the day.
