Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics Finalists
A huge congratulations to our Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics Squad for winning their heat and gaining themselves a place in the final next week. We are so proud of you all as we were up against some strong schools and most of which were much larger schools than ours. We might be small, but we are mighty as some of the children said tonight! Thank you so much to Mrs Gardner for dedicating her time to training the squad at her after school club, to Mr Bloomfield for his support tonight and to all of the parents and carers who supported with transport. Roll on next week!
Year 3- P.E- Target Games
Today in P.E, Year 3 enjoyed a variety of target games. We began with a quick warm-up and concluded with a thorough cool-down that included stretching. For the first activity, 'Spearing the Disc,' children were divided into groups of 6-8. Two children rolled a hoop back and forth, while the remaining children attempted to roll a ball between them so that it passed through the moving hoop. After a set time, the roles were switched. In the second game, 'Beanbag Boccia,' teams of 3-4 competed using beanbags of their assigned colour. One team member threw a different coloured beanbag (the Jack) into the designated area. Players then took turns underhand throwing their beanbags, aiming to land them closer to the Jack than their opponents. Underhand throwing technique was emphasised, including facing the direction of the throw, stepping forward with the opposite foot, and following through with the arm. It was great to see lots of encouragement and support from other teams.
Reception: Muddy Monday
Today our Reception children braved the cold and went outside for an observational walk to Jack Keys. We focused on spirituality this week and really focussed on what we could see, hear and smell. We stopped and looked around at all of God's beautiful creations. It was lovely to take a moment to really focus on what is all around us. We had a wonderful afternoon and we were really impressed with the children's resilience with the weather and the amount of walking we did.
DPSSA Schools Football League
Today, our incredible football team showcased their talent and determination, winning their final two games and securing an impressive second place in the Darwen Primary Schools Football League. The boys played brilliantly and should be extremely proud of their hard work and achievements!
Reception Street Dance
This week we have been revisiting the moves we have learned so far in our sessions with Jess. We have been practising our bounce and rock, cool dude faces and the Smurf. The children are really starting to understand how to put the moves together to create longer sequences. We can’t wait to see the finished result in a few weeks!
Year 4 - PE: Acro Session 2
The Year 4s have been focusing on perfecting their rolls and their bridges this week. It was fantastic to see the determination shown by each child to achieve their personal goals. Some children were able to perfect their front walkovers (handstand into bridge). All this and it’s only week two!
Year 4 Gymnastics Routine with Matching and Mirroring Balances
In our gymnastics lesson today, we created and performed a sequence of actions with control and precision. We incorporated travelling, balancing, jumps, turns and rolls. Following our sequences we then peer evaluated using our success criteria. The children have really worked hard to challenge themselves and also develop their fundamental movement skills too.
Year 5 P.E
In P.E, Year 5 have been practising hockey skills. They have been focusing on dribbling, passing, receiving and aiming with co-ordination and accuracy. This can be very tricky, but everyone’s technique is improving a lot.
Online Safety: Health and Fitness Apps
From data privacy worries to potential costs, it’s important to understand the risks posed by fitness apps – especially for younger users. This week’s guide and the latest episode of the #WakeUpWednesday podcast address some concerns around these platforms. Year 2 - Gymnastics
In gymnastics, year 2 are beginning to put all of the skills and movements they have learnt over the past weeks into a routine. Skills such as forward rolls, balances and tuck jumps. The children have been trying really to remember their sequences and have a go at all of the skills even if they are difficult. In our next lessons, the children will choose their own skills and moments to create their own unique routines.
Year 6 Gymnastics
In P.E, year 6 having been working in pairs or small groups to create routines with a range of counter-balances. They had to work co-operatively and use core strength. Their routines are looking amazing!
Year 3- P.E- Gymnastics-Demonstrate balances on 2 and 3 points of the body.
Year 3 began their gymnastics unit this afternoon focused on balance and movement. To start, they practised balancing on one leg, extending the other leg backwards with a pointed foot, and then switching sides. We discussed the quality of a good balance, emphasising the importance of stillness. Next, the children explored balancing on four points (two hands and two feet) and discussed whether it felt easier and why. They then experimented with balancing on smaller body parts, trying positions with 1, 2, 3, or 4 points of contact. It was a fantastic start to the gymnastics unit, with plenty of creativity, teamwork, and fun.
