Bullseye Maths
A huge thank you to the Professional Darts Corporation for a great Bullseye Maths session yesterday. We welcomed professional darts player James Wade to St Barnabas and he showed us his amazing darts skills. The boys learnt how darts can really help to improve maths and there was lots of maths going on whilst having lots of fun playing darts. Thank you James, Gary, Will and the coaches for a brilliant afternoon. Good luck in the World Darts Series James!
Year 1 Maths- Measuring using a ruler
As part of their maths unit on measuring length and height, Year 1 were introduced to measuring with a ruler today. The concentration as they measured various lines of different lengths was amazing. They were very accurate with their measuring, always making sure they had the beginning of their line starting at 0cm. Well done Year 1.
Year 6 Science- heart rate
Year 6 have been learning about their heart rate in Science.
Year 3 Science Investigation
Year 3 Science Investigation - working in groups to investigate a question connected with the length of bone in either a leg or an arm. The children have been measuring the chosen bone and also the distance they can either throw, kick or step and whether there is a connection between the two measurements.
Arithmetic Paper
Year 6 have been working hard practicing their arithmetic, by completing a Sats Paper Under formal conditions.
Reception Measuring in Maths
Reception have enjoyed measuring the heights of different superheroes this week, using cubes as a non standard unit. We guessed which Superhero was the shortest and which was the tallest and then used the cubes to check if we were right.
Year 3 Science Investigation-Do people with a longer middle finger throw further?
Year 3 Science Investigation - Do people with a longer middle finger throw further? Year 3 measured the length of each others’ middle finger in centimetres. We then chose five children with different lengths of finger to throw a bean bag. We measured how far they threw a bean bag in metres and centimetres. Our conclusion was that the length of finger did not make a difference to the length of throw.
Year 2 Maths: Recognising 2-D and 3-D Shapes
Year 2 have been looking at 2-D and 3-D shapes today in maths. We explored the names of some 2-D and 3-D shapes and compared some of the shapes and their properties.
Year 5 - Maths
In Maths, Year 5 have been multiplying 2 - digits (area model) using base 10 equipment. They have used the knowledge from a few weeks ago, finding the area of a rectangle.
Reception Maths
Reception have been learning about how to sequence numbers correctly. We have been practising counting out loud to say numbers in the right order and know that each number is one more than the one before.
Year 2 Maths: Selecting money
Today in maths, Year 2 used notes and coins to create different amounts of money. We thought about how we can make different amounts of money, using the fewest amount of coins and notes.
Year 1 Maths
Year 1 have been making numbers between 10 and 20 on their bead strings. They have been looking at ways to do this with more efficiency e.g. for 17, you move 5 and 5 which is 10, then another 5 followed by a 2. Great work Year 1.
