Times Table Rockstars Champions
A huge well done to our KS2 Times Table Rockstars champions for this month! Congratulations to: Charlie G – Year 3 Isabelle – Year 4 Charlie – Year 5 Isabelle – Year 6 A special shoutout to our class winners too: Lower Key Stage 2: Year 3 Upper Key Stage 2: Year 6 A Fantastic effort by everyone—keep rocking those times tables!
Reception-Maths - Weight
Today in our Maths lesson we talked about weight and what it means when things are heavier and lighter. We used weighing scales to prove which items were heaviest and which items were lightest and which we could balance because they were equal. The children really enjoyed testing different objects such as stones, shells and pom-poms.
Year 6 - Measuring Angles
Today in Year 6, the children focused on developing their understanding of measuring angles and calculating missing angles within triangles. Using protractors, they worked carefully to measure angles with increasing accuracy and precision. The class applied their knowledge of the properties of triangles, knowing that angles within a triangle add up to 180°, to solve a range of problems. The children demonstrated great focus when aligning their protractors correctly and reading scales accurately, showing a growing confidence in their mathematical skills.
Year 1 Maths: Counting in groups of ten
Year 1 helped to work at a sorting factory. They had a variety of different objects such as beads, cotton wool and straws. They had to fill up as many ten frames as they could and leave any extra ones to the side. To count their number, they counted in tens for the full ten frames and then added the ones. The children absolutely loved sorting these objects and it allowed them to practice their counting skills.
Year 3- Maths- Greater Denominators, Smaller Pieces
In our Maths lesson today, we explored the logic of comparing fractions with the same numerator. We visually created fraction sheets and imagined they were bars of chocolate to help us understand that a "bigger" denominator doesn't necessarily mean a "greater" fraction. In fact, we discovered that the more people you have to share a chocolate bar with (the denominator), the smaller each individual piece becomes! By the end of the session, we were able to conclude that when the numerators are the same, the greater the denominator, the smaller the fraction.
Reception Maths - Making 7
This week in Maths we have been thinking about all the different ways to make 7. The children explored this in relation to our story this week ‘The Birthday Crown’ where they thought of different ways they could arrange 7 jewels for the Queen’s crown.
Year 2 - Maths - Longer or shorter than a metre?
Year 2 estimated whether items were longer or shorter than a metre and then checked their answers by using a metre stick.
Year 2 - P.E. The Great Outdoors
Year 2 have been using our map reading skills to find times tables questions hidden in the school grounds. We then solved the times tables questions when we got back to the classroom.
Reception - PSHE - Money
In today’s lesson we talked about money, what it is, what we can do with it, where we keep it and how adults and grown ups make money. We looked at different coins in circulation and role played a shop keeper and buying goods. We even moved this to play with our little ice cream cart outside in the sunshine!
Year 3- Maths- Calculating perimeter of 2D shapes
This week, Year 3 have worked hard on their maths, focusing on calculating the perimeter of various 2D shapes. The children have been learning how to measure and add the distances around the outside of an object, and drawing their own complex shapes.
KS2 Timestable Rockstar Battle
A huge well done to our champions of this month’s Times Table Rockstars Battle! Our individual champions are: Year 6 – Luca Year 5 – Charlie Year 4 – Bobby-Ray Year 3 – Charlie A special congratulations to Year 6 and Year 4, who were our overall winning teams and claimed victory in their class battles. Well done to everyone who participated — your effort, enthusiasm and determination made it a fantastic competition!
Year 6 - Maths
Today, Year 6 focused on calculating the area of triangles. They began by carefully measuring the base and perpendicular height of different triangles using rulers, ensuring accuracy in their measurements. The children then constructed and labelled their own triangles, identifying the base, vertical height (altitude), and vertices. They applied the area formula: Area = base × height ÷ 2 We discussed why the formula works, linking it to finding the area of a rectangle and understanding that a triangle is half of a rectangle with the same base and height.
