Year 2 - DT Preparing and sampling food
In Year 2, we prepared some healthy foods by chopping, spreading and grating. We then tried the foods to see which combinations we will select to make our healthy wraps.
Kids with Bricks Lego Club
This week's "Kids with Bricks" Lego club theme was on shoes. We watched our weekly video, which gave us lots of interesting facts about how shoe designs have changed over time. We also saw some futuristic shoes that designers are working on! The children were tasked with creating their own shoe - we had trainers with laces, roller skates, and even shoes that can fly! A special well done to our Builder of the Week: Frankie!
Year 1 DT: Healthy Breakfast Pots
Year 1 created their healthy breakfast pots for their partners. They made sure that they added yogurt, cereal and fruits in layers for a better taste. They worked really collaboratively in their partners to create a pot that they would enjoy.
Collaborative Design in Year 4
As part of our design process, Year 4 have been using their oracy skills to discuss their designs and reasons for their choices. Using their ‘Talk Tokens’ they highlight the best features of their design and what they may need to work on as well as developing peer evaluation through talk.
Year 4 Electric Posters - Final Product
In our DT session we finally got to make our Electric Posters. We made the circuits with two crocodile clips, a battery, battery holder and bulb. The children followed their designs carefully, choosing to focus on either the Amazon or a Roman soldier. We were really impressed with the final pieces and in our last session we will evaluate and reflect on what we found challenging and what worked really well.
Craft Club
Today at Craft Club we took on the very tricky challenge of weaving! The children chose a range of coloured paper strips and ribbons to make a woven Easter egg whilst enjoying some Easter chocolate. We can’t wait for the next block of Craft Club after the holidays!
Reception: Fire Engine Craft
Our Superhero topic took an exciting turn this week as we shifted our focus to the real-life heroes of our community: firefighters! The children were buzzing with energy as they stepped into the role of engineers to design and build their very own fire engines. It was wonderful to watch them take full creative control, carefully selecting their colours to ensure their vehicles looked rescue-ready. The classroom was a hub of construction as the children practised their "joining" skills, figuring out the best ways to connect paper and card to build sturdy structures. To add that final heroic touch, they focused on the finer details that make a fire engine special. From crafting tall ladders for high-up rescues to adding bright sirens and windows, their attention to detail was impressive. This project wasn't just about crafting; it was a fantastic way for the children to develop their fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities while celebrating the brave people who keep us safe. We can't wait to meet a real firefighter tomorrow!
Doodle and Dance Club
What a wonderful way to wrap up our sessions! Today marked our very last Doodle and Dance Club, and the children certainly made it a memorable one. We kicked things off by following step-by-step instructions to draw our very own Easter bunnies, and Mrs Wilkinson was so impressed by the focus and determination in the room. Everyone worked incredibly hard, resulting in some fabulous drawings that showcased their unique creative flairs. We finished the club on a high note with lots of high-energy dancing to our favourite tracks, leaving us all with big smiles.
Kids with Bricks Lego Club
This week's theme in our Kids with Bricks Lego Club was flying machines. We watched our weekly video, which gave us some fascinating facts about the very first aeroplanes, inspiring our own amazing creations - we had UFOs, aeroplanes, hover crafts and more! The children had a lot of fun. A special well done to our Builder of the Week, Eliza!
Year 3- Food Technology- Exploring Seasonal Food
This afternoon, we explored the world of seasonal eating and discovered where our food actually comes from. We learned that while supermarkets provide us with a huge variety of ingredients year-round, importing food from overseas can lead to a larger carbon footprint and increased waste. By choosing to eat food that is in season in the UK, like summer strawberries or autumn pumpkins, we can support our local farmers and help protect the environment. Using our UK seasonal food wheels, we identified which crops flourish in our temperate climate. This knowledge will be essential over the next few weeks as we begin to design and bake our very own seasonal tarts.
Craft Club
For St. Patrick’s Day at Craft Club, we created rainbow scenes with pots of gold! The children painted a background, created their own pot of gold and then used strips of paper to create a rainbow. Some children even used heart shaped paper punches to create four leaf clovers. Next week at Craft Club: Easter crafts.
Year 1 Provision: Creating Castles
Last week, Year 1 loved creating castles using toilet rolls in provision. We saw them use lots of different skills and imagination, such as adding flags, turrets and backgrounds.
