Foodie Friends Club: Making Chocolate Brownies
This afternoon, in our Foodies Club, the children took on the challenge of baking chocolate brownies, becoming little mathematicians as they weighed out sugar, flour, butter and rich cocoa powder. The highlight of the afternoon was cracking the egg and licking the chocolate from the spoon and bowl. Some of the children were initially terrified because they had never cracked an egg before, fearing the mess or a broken shell. However, by supporting one another, every child conquered their fear, successfully whisking the eggs into the mixture. The children could not wait to take their brownies home, serving their treats with a scoop of ice cream or whipping cream.
Foodie Friends Club: Shortcrust Pizzas
We kicked off our first Foodie Club of the half-term with a fantastic session making shortcrust pastry pizzas. Our "Great Chefs" were in their element, skillfully rolling the pastry into their own unique shapes before smothering them in sauce and loading them with a rainbow of toppings, including peppers, onions, olives, sweetcorn, and tuna. It was a joy to see the children so deeply engaged, mastering new culinary skills and exploring different flavours with such enthusiasm. By providing these hands-on opportunities to create and learn, we are helping our students build confidence and truly live life to its fullest.
Year 2 - DT - Puppets
We have completed our fantastic Christmas puppets. We have been sewing, cutting and joining materials.
Christmas Stockings in Year 4
We have finally finished our ‘Seasonal Stockings’ as part of our DT project and we are so very proud of them! They look wonderful and the children have thought very carefully about aesthetics and durability. We can’t wait for everyone to see them at the Christmas Fair this afternoon
Year 1 DT: Moving Christmas Books
Year 1 are so excited to show off their finished Christmas DT books. It has taken them weeks to complete. They independently completed all of the designs for the pages in the books as well as ensuring that they have moving parts. Each book has an up and down slider, a side to side slider and a pivot and lever mechanism. We cannot wait to sell them at our Christmas Fayre for £2!
Year 3-Design and Technology: Busy Elves and Festive Pouches
In Design and Technology this term, our Year 3s have been transformed into busy elves, expertly working on a practical textile project: creating their own festive and functional pouches. This unit has allowed the children to build successfully on the foundational sewing skills they learned in KS1. They have carefully designed their pouches and mastered the running stitch, ensuring they sew with regular-sized stitches and that both ends of the thread are securely knotted. They accurately prepared and cut their fabric using a template, then used a running stitch to join the two pieces. Finally, they creatively decorated their finished pouches using the materials provided. We are incredibly proud of the hard work from our busy elves and are thrilled that their functional and aesthetic pouches will be showcased and ready for purchase at the upcoming school Christmas Fayre.

Year 4 DT - Seasonal Stocking Production
We are flying with our seasonal stockings in Year 4 now. The children have been working so hard to create these wonderful stockings and we are so proud of their perseverance and determination to master difficult skills such as embroidery and appliqué. We can’t wait to share the stockings with everyone at the Christmas Fayre.
Year 6 - Loop Games
Year 6 have been working incredibly hard on their DT projects in preparation for the Christmas Fair and their final creations are fantastic. This year, the children designed and made their own loop games, carefully planning and constructing the electrical circuits before testing and refining their designs. Each game has been beautifully decorated and enclosed within a Christmas globe, giving the classic steady-hand challenge a festive twist.
Seasonal Stockings Start in Year 4
In our DT session this week, we made a start on our felt stockings. After selecting which stitch we would use - either the running or overstitch, we selected which embellishment we would add first. We were able to use the templates to make it easier too. The child found it quite a challenge using the fabric scissors, especially when cutting out the smaller designs but they really persevered and we had some lovely designs by the end of the lesson which they were super proud of. Next week, we look forward to adding extra appliqué, embroidery and creating the other designs on the other side of our felt then eventually sewing them together.
Year 2 - DT - Sewing using a running stitch for our puppets
Year 2 have been using a running stitch to sew two pieces of fabric together when making our puppets. They will be available to purchase at our FOSB Christmas Fair when they are finished.
