Reception: Muddy Monday

Wow! What a year we have had in Reception. The children have made so much progress during our forest schools sessions. They have improved in their stamina, risk taking, problem solving and imagination skills. We have loved seeing all of the children blossom and made the most of our last Muddy Monday session together!

Reception: Our New Classroom

The children in Reception have loved our new outdoor canopy that was built last week. This has extended our classroom to provide an outdoor area that the children can access in all weathers. Our indoor classroom has also had a refresh and the children have loved exploring all of the areas!

Year 3- Design Technology- Make a castle using 3D shapes – both nets and junk modelling.

This term in Design Technology, Year 3 have learned about various features and designs of castles, including moats, drawbridges, battlements, keeps, and turrets. They have practised drawing their castle designs using 2D shapes and labelling the 3D shapes that will create these features. The students have constructed nets using glue to make geometric shapes and have stacked these shapes along with recyclable materials to build the structures of their castles. Next, they will evaluate their products, reflect on their challenges, and consider what they might do differently next time to improve their designs.

Year 3- Design Technology-Constructing nets to make 3D shapes

In D.T. this afternoon, the children constructed various 3D geometric shapes for building castles. They cut along bold lines, folded along dotted lines, ensured tabs were the correct size, made crisp folds, and used glue to assemble the nets into 3D shapes.

Reception: Outdoor Provision

We are so lucky in Reception to have a huge outdoor area. Today our children went in our immediate outdoor area where they were digging for treasure, problem solving to create a house, roleplaying pirates and creating an obstacle course. Some of our children chose to practice their running and ball skills on the MUGA and then some of our children used the outdoor gym to improve their motor skills. What a fun afternoon we have all had!

Year 1 D&T- Creating a Stable Structure

Yesterday in their D&T lesson, Year 1 learnt about three different types of windmills (Windmill, Wind Turbine and Pin Wheel) and their features. They then discussed the meaning of a structure and created their own stable structure which was the base of the windmill using paper cups and moulding clay. At the end of the lesson, they tested their structures for strength and stability and concluded that the structure was more stable when it was heavier (contained clay).

Year 3- Design Technology- Identifying features of a Castle

This term in D.T., Year 3 will explore castles in detail and construct their castle structures using materials like cardboard boxes, coloured cards, string and tubes. In today's lesson, the children designed their castles on paper and labelled a castle's key features such as towers, turrets, battlements, moat, gatehouse and drawbridge, labelling them clearly.

Year 4 DT - Food Technology - Creating our own biscuits

In our food technology session we moved on to making our very own biscuits. When designing our biscuits we needed to think carefully about our targeted audience, our budget and adaptation of our basic biscuit recipe. We worked in our groups to create our mixture then we rolled out the dough and cut out our biscuits with a cutter. We then placed the biscuits on a baking tray and Miss Carol took them to the oven to bake for 10-12 minutes. Once they had cooled we then decorated them and popped them in our unique package designs.
