They represented our school with pride and positivity and came 3rd overall. Well done! A huge thank you to Mrs Wilkinson for supporting and umpiring and to the parents who collected.

DPSSA Swimming Gala

What an incredible evening we had last night at Darwen Primary Schools Swimming Gala at Darwen Leisure Centre. Team B absolutely smashed it with such courage and determination. We had lots of children stepping out of their comfort zones, with quite a few still only in Year 4 and representing Team B in such an immense way! We came away with a huge medal haul and it was such an honour to support and watch our children at a great event. Well done and many thanks to all of the parents, carers and families who came down to support - we were definitely the smallest yet loudest team by far. Go Team B!

Our history session today involved highlighting and developing our understanding of Continuity and Change in both Iron Age and Anglo Saxon Houses . We first identified key features of the houses such as building material/construction, hearth, bedding, doors and windows. Then we looked at what had stayed the same ( continuity) and what had changed between the Iron Age and Anglo Saxon periods. Finally the children labelled the key features of an Iron Age house which included a thatched roof, central open fire and wattle and daub sides.

Biggest Ever Girls Football Event

Today, we proudly took part in the FA’s Biggest Ever Girls’ Football Event, celebrating the joy of football and encouraging more girls to get involved in the sport. Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 participated in a fun, game-based session where they had to dribble the ball and score in any of the four goals while defenders tried to stop them with tackles. The session helped develop their dribbling, spatial awareness and teamwork skills in an exciting and engaging way. Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 took part in a series of competitive matches, showcasing their skills and teamwork. They then tested their nerves in thrilling penalty shootouts, demonstrating confidence and precision under pressure. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm, determination and teamwork throughout the morning. The event truly highlighted the growing passion for girls’ football in our school!

Year 4 Hockey - Passing Skills with a Partner

Today was our second hockey session led by Blae from Progressive Sports. We discussed what we covered in the last session and highlighted key points such as stepping with your left leg forward and pushing the ball with the head of the stick. Extend the left arm and hand to pull the stick forward. Push the right hand through to generate power and direction of the pass. Maintaining a still head throughout. The children then worked in pairs to develop their push pass. We learnt that a push pass is an effective and accurate short pass that can be used quickly to maintain possession. Never have we done a hockey lesson in our PJ’s so the children thoroughly enjoyed it and even more so in the beautiful sunshine!
