Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics Club
In our second week of Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics Club, we practiced a variety of events which included standing long jump, obstacle relay, under and over relay and javelin. The children worked super hard to develop their skills, agility and speed.
Year 4- Creating Gymnastic Sequences
In our gymnastics lesson today, we were creating a sequence of gymnastic actions including matched shapes and mirrored shapes with a partner using apparatus. They also incorporated changes of level and direction. We also peer evaluated to identify the strengths of a performance and areas for improvements. The children provided constructive feedback against the given success criteria which was great to listen to. The children are working really hard to develop their oracy skills and provide comments that are both positive and helpful for their peers.
Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics Finalists
A huge congratulations to our Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics Squad for winning their heat and gaining themselves a place in the final next week. We are so proud of you all as we were up against some strong schools and most of which were much larger schools than ours. We might be small, but we are mighty as some of the children said tonight! Thank you so much to Mrs Gardner for dedicating her time to training the squad at her after school club, to Mr Bloomfield for his support tonight and to all of the parents and carers who supported with transport. Roll on next week!
DPSSA Schools Football League
Today, our incredible football team showcased their talent and determination, winning their final two games and securing an impressive second place in the Darwen Primary Schools Football League. The boys played brilliantly and should be extremely proud of their hard work and achievements!
Year 4 Gymnastics Routine with Matching and Mirroring Balances
In our gymnastics lesson today, we created and performed a sequence of actions with control and precision. We incorporated travelling, balancing, jumps, turns and rolls. Following our sequences we then peer evaluated using our success criteria. The children have really worked hard to challenge themselves and also develop their fundamental movement skills too.
DPSSA Football
Today, our school football team represented the school brilliantly in their league fixture. Drawing against Ashleigh in the first game and then beating St James’ comfortably in the second. An excellent performance from the boys. Well done!
Archery and Axe Throwing Taster Session in Year 4
Today we had a special treat having a taster session for both archery and axe throwing. We learnt lots of new skills including how to handle the equipment and keep safe whilst using it. Our two coaches went through how to develop the required skills and we worked in small groups in a carousel. We had a fantastic time taking part in the taster session and look forward to understanding many more opportunities in varied sports.
Year 4 Gymnastics - Mirroring and developing a sequence
In our first gymnastics session, we looked at the theme of meeting and partnering. We developed problem solving skills to try out new ideas with our partner and use different solutions to make a good gymnastic sequence. We then worked on our mirrored shapes, developing how to travel as part of a sequence. We travelled on our feet, hands and jumped. Finally we evaluated our peer performances using our success criteria for a mirrored balance.

Key Stage 1 Multi- Skills Festival
We have had a wonderful morning at the Key Stage 1 Multi- Skills Festival at St Bedes. The children took part in lots of activities which were based on fundamental skills. They tried extremely hard and thoroughly enjoyed every second. Our Sports Leaders also did a great job in supporting the younger children, guiding them through each activity and encouraging them all. We even came away with a gold medal! Go Team B!
Sportshall Athletics Club
We had another brilliant Sportshall Athletics session this week with the children working hard to develop their speed, and agility on their given events. The children found it quite difficult to master the triple jump but with lots of perseverance they got there in the end.
