Reception Autumn Activities
This week has been all things Autumn in Reception! We have been looking at seasonal change and how the environment around us is starting to look and feel different. We created hedgehog collages, counted Autumn treasures, finger painted Autumn leaves and used Autumnal colours to create patterns on leaves.
Year 3- Art- Egyptian Scroll Making
Throughout this half term, Year 3 has been exploring the fascinating world of Ancient Egyptian art. They have learned about the unique styles, patterns, and techniques used by the Egyptians. To display their knowledge and skills they have created their own scrolls on papyrus, which they created themselves using coffee and tea. They have carefully chosen colours and materials to make their scrolls visually appealing and historically accurate. They have also used sketchbooks to record their observations, experiment with different ideas, and plan their scroll-making process. By studying how artists in the past produced art, they have gained a deeper understanding of the influence and impact of historical methods and styles on contemporary art. This knowledge has inspired them to create their own unique and meaningful works of art.
Year 5 - Art
The children planned and produced their imaginative interaction installations using a wide variety of materials and light sources. The pieces were inspired by a range of real world issues such as plastic pollution, the raw power of volcanic activity and the exploration of space. Children worked together in groups and showed great teamwork, proactively solving problems with conversation and compromise.
Year 1 Art: Mixed Media Landscapes
This afternoon we have started to create our final piece of our hot or cold landscapes. The children used their previous plan to draw their landscape picture. They then used lots of materials such as sand, beads, plastic, cotton wool and tin foil to create their mixed media landscapes. They put lots of thought of what colour materials they were using to ensure that they were only using warm colours for their hot landscape or cool colours for their cold landscape. We cannot wait to see what they look like when they are finished. Well done Year 1!
Year 4 Art - Optical Illusions Part 2
In the second part of our art lesson on optical illusions, we finished our designs. First we collected our packs that we had prepared in the previous lesson which included our A3 folded card, picture one chopped into strips and picture two chopped into strips. Next we took out the card and our first picture laying the strips one by one onto the card. Once we knew there were all correct in the right order and the right way up, we glued them down with pva glue. We then repeated this process with the other picture to complete the piece. The children have worked so hard on this art project and we can’t wait to see them up in the hall to showcase every individual work of art.
Craft Club
Over the past 2 weeks we have been making dream catchers at Craft Club. The children decorated the hoops with gems and washi tape, wrapped them with coloured yarn, tied on ribbons and threaded beads. Lots of patience and fine motor skills were needed for this project and everyone did a fab job! We are super excited for our next project: air dry clay mechanical toys!
Year 6 Art
Year 6 are really enjoying their current art unit: "Making Our Voice Heard." This week, the children continued their work on symbolic imagery, using names and symbols from the Maya Tzolkʼin calendar that the children felt were a representation of themselves and their personalities. They created two pieces of artwork using these names and symbols, one with charcoal and one with coloured oil pastels, using masking tape to create the lettering.
Year 5 - RotaKids
Year 5 are collaborating with Darwen Rotary Club on a range of charitable projects to support our school and wider community. Our focus this term is on collecting essential items to help refugees this autumn and winter. In association with Darwen Asylum Refugee Enterprise, we are hoping to collect warm clothing and toiletries in shoeboxes. The children used their amazing art skills to make RotaKids posters for each classroom.
Year 4 Art - Optical Illusions
Our art lesson this week focused on creating an image by using an artistic process. We looked at how lenticular printing gives an optical illusion too. Using our Amazon theme, the children selected two of their favourite images that they would use in their piece. Next the children watched the step by step guide on how to create an optical illusion by cutting up each of their a4 sheets into 2cm strips. Cutting each photo one at a time ensured that the strips didn’t get mixed up and they also ordered them one to ten. After cutting up both images they then moved onto scoring a piece of a3 card using 2cm strips that had been copied onto the back of the sheet. This made it much easier to fold and following a demonstration, the children got to work making a fan by folding each piece alternately. This was super tricky and took lots of concentration. The children really supported each other through this helping with cutting and putting paper clips at both ends to secure it. As this took so much time, we will complete the second half of the lesson in a few days when we take the strips and stick them onto the card in sequential order. We can’t wait to see the finished articles on display in the hall!
Year 1 Art: experimenting with colours and materials
Today we chose if we wanted to create a cold landscape or a warm landscape. We then reminded ourselves about warm and cool colours so that we could create a background for our landscape. We experimented with watercolour to see how we could use colours and blend them together. Then we looked at different materials and discussed how we might be able to use them on our landscape. For example, cotton wool for a polar bear or green crepe paper for plants in the desert.
Reception :Creative - Building rockets
This week we made rockets in our creative area using recycled materials and foil. This is tied to our weekly story Aliens love underpants. The children really enjoyed building these and telling us where they wanted to fly to.
Year 4 Art Willow Painting
Our art session this week focused on Willow Style painting on plates. We linked this to our class novel The Explorer and selected three key elements of the story such as the plane, the Amazon river and an animal featured in the story such as the sloth. Next we drew these onto our paper plates faintly so that we could then go over them with a fine brush and ink. The children really tried hard to keep to the outlines with super fine brush strokes but it proved a difficult job! The final plate designs were all unique and when put together, looked very effective.
