Doodle and Dance Week 1
The children at Doodle and Dance turned a roll of wallpaper into a vibrant communal masterpiece today, filling the paper with colourful drawings of rainbows, hearts, flowers, and their favorite people and animals. The creative energy didn't stop at the drawing board, as the group quickly transitioned from artists to athletes for a high-spirited "Wake and Shake" dance session. It was a club of pure joy and imagination, leaving the room covered in art and the children full of smiles after dancing their hearts out.
Year 3: World Book Week Launch-live event with author and illustrator Liz Pichon
To kick off World Book Week, Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic "15 Funny Years of Tom Gates" live event with author and illustrator Liz Pichon. Year 3 readers were completely engaged as they practised their "doodling" skills alongside Liz, learning how to bring iconic characters like Tom, Derek, and Mr Fullerman to life on the page. The session was packed with creativity and laughter, capped by an interactive quiz that tested their knowledge of the series. It was a brilliant way to celebrate a love of reading and illustration, leaving the children inspired for the rest of the week.
Year 3-Express Yourself Day!
Today, our school community came together to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week 2026. This year’s theme, "This is My Place," encouraged our students to embrace self-awareness and explore what makes them unique, a vital step in building the resilience needed to navigate life’s ups and downs. Year 3 proudly wore the tie-dye T-shirts they created in their recent Art lessons. Each shirt was as unique as the student wearing it, perfectly showcasing their vibrant personalities and creative flair.
Year 1 Art: Creating our Final Pieces
In Art, we used our previous plan to create our Clarice Cliff inspired plates. Year 1 looked carefully at their previous planning design to draw onto their plates and used their painting skills to paint some beautiful artwork. Not only had we been inspired by Clarice Cliff, but our own versions of We’re Going On A Bear Hunt. Our plates depict our innovated scenes such as a candy land, swamp, beach, rainforest, hill or volcano. We are very excited to see our artwork on display too.
Year 3- Art-Anni Albers: Hand-Weaving Baskets
After discovering Anni Albers's textile art this afternoon, Year 3 became designers. We practised the ancient skill of weaving by making our own baskets, carefully choosing weft strips in colours that matched the tones on our mood boards. We focused on precision by cutting our warp and weft pieces into neat, straight strips and numbering them to keep our patterns tight and organised.
Year 4 - RE: Transfiguration Art
Following on from the children’s study of the Transfiguration, this week in RE, the children looked at a selection of artworks representing Jesus’ transfiguration and used these to gather ideas in groups. They then created their own transfiguration art in chalks on the playground. Each group was able to point out Jesus, Moses, Elijah and the disciples, and they could explain how they portrayed Jesus’ divinity through the use of shapes, symbols and colours.
Year 4 Artwork in a Carousel
In our art session this week we completed a carousel of activities which included Batik with one group, William Morris inspired floral deigns and one group did repeated patterns. The children were super creative in the design process even though the concept of the repeated patterns process was quite complex. We can’t wait to display our masterpieces outside our classroom over the next few weeks!

Doodle and Dance Club
This week our children learnt how to follow instructions to create a masterpiece. They all followed step by step instructions to create a Panda with bamboo, Mrs Wilkinson was extremely impressed with everyone's creations. Doodle and Dance will be back next half term for more fun!
Year 6 - Photography
Year 6 had an amazing opportunity to get hands-on with photography, exploring miniature photography using cameras. With the help and support from DACA High School, the children experimented with blurred backgrounds and focusing techniques, learning how to use camera angles, perspective and depth of field to make their Lego figures interact creatively with the world around them. The session encouraged creativity, teamwork and technical skills and the children loved learning all about the world of photography. Thanks Mr Lewis!

Year 3- Art-Express Yourself: The Tie-Dye Gallery
The highlight of our week has definitely been seeing the Year 3 artists' tie-dye T-shirts finally finished, and they look absolutely stunning! After spending time earlier in the term thinking about their own personalities and what makes them unique, the children used their mood boards to choose colours that really represent who they are. We've been talking a lot about the aesthetic of their designs, how the different colours and shapes come together to create a specific "vibe" or look. From bright, bold circles to more muted, marble-effect designs, every single shirt is totally different. The children have done such a great job creating a unique style that is completely their own, and they should be so proud of what they’ve made.
Year 2 - Art - Sketching our cuddly toys
We brought in cuddly toys from home and made sketches of them. We refined our initial sketches and used different pressures to vary the tones.
Year 3- Art: Expressing Identity Through Tie-Dye
In Art today, Year 3 Artists took the next step in their creative journey by tie-dyeing their own T-shirts. Building on the mood boards they previously created—which showcased their unique personalities and interests- the children used those as a foundation to express their individuality through vibrant colours and patterns. We began by analysing last year’s examples to spark inspiration, then discussed how specific visual choices can represent who we are as individuals. While the shirts are currently sitting, the children are already super excited to wash and dry them tomorrow to see their final designs come to life.
