Christmas and Craft in Year 4

What a crafty Christmas we have been having in Year 4. Not only have we finished our stockings but we have even managed to squeeze in some Christmas cards. The children created their Christmas trees from the left over felt from their stockings, adding sequins and glitter to make them sparkle. All finished with some beautiful words inside.

Year 3-Design and Technology: Busy Elves and Festive Pouches

In Design and Technology this term, our Year 3s have been transformed into busy elves, expertly working on a practical textile project: creating their own festive and functional pouches. This unit has allowed the children to build successfully on the foundational sewing skills they learned in KS1. They have carefully designed their pouches and mastered the running stitch, ensuring they sew with regular-sized stitches and that both ends of the thread are securely knotted. They accurately prepared and cut their fabric using a template, then used a running stitch to join the two pieces. Finally, they creatively decorated their finished pouches using the materials provided. We are incredibly proud of the hard work from our busy elves and are thrilled that their functional and aesthetic pouches will be showcased and ready for purchase at the upcoming school Christmas Fayre.

Year 6 - Wreath Designs

This week, Year 6 have created their own Christmas wreaths to present in church, sharing with the whole school what we have been learning during Advent. Each wreath includes the symbol of Jesus’ everlasting circle, reminding us of His eternal love and presence. The children also wrote their own kenning poems about hope—a key theme of Advent—which they displayed proudly as part of their wreaths. Their thoughtful work beautifully reflects the meaning and message of this special season.

Warhammer Club

On Monday, the Warhammer Club continued painting their miniatures. After applying washes, the children learned how to dry brush the base layers with lighter colours using make-up brushes. This acted to highlight the model as if light was reflected off the raised surfaces of the model creating the appearance of depth and detail.

Craft Club

We have had a great term at Craft Club doing Christmas crafts! Week 1: We used lots of resources to produce Christmas cards for family and friends. Some children folded 2D nets to create 3D gift bags. Week 2: We made beaded Christmas tree decorations and keychains using excellent fine motor skills to thread and shape our designs. Week 3: Finally, today we decorated our very own Christmas stocking using fabric pens and patches. Some of the older children were trained on how to safely use a hot glue gun to apply their designs. Everyone has been fantastic and Becky is looking forward to returning in 2026! ✨

We have been completing challenges in provision linked to our topic in preparation for an exciting toy party in class on Friday afternoon.

Year 6 - Advent

This week in RE, the children have been exploring the season of Advent and its meaning within the Christian faith. Through studying quotes from the Bible, they gained a deeper understanding of themes such as hope, preparation and the coming of Jesus. The children then designed and decorated their own Advent wreaths, thoughtfully including Christian symbols such as candles, greenery and ribbons to represent the spiritual journey of Advent.

Year 3- Science- Shadow Puppet Show

Today, the children became both scientists and artists as they explored the fascinating world of shadows. They created bar charts to accurately record and show exactly how the sun's position causes shadows to move and change size throughout the day. Following this scientific exploration, they took that understanding and applied it to performance, designing and staging an amazing shadow puppet show, putting the knowledge they've gained this half term in science, all about light sources, light rays, and how light travels, directly into practice.

Year 1 Art: mixed media landscapes

Today Year 1 finished their final mixed media landscape. We were so impressed with the use of materials on the landscapes which showed a lot of thought and understanding. They made sure to use appropriate colours (warm or cold colours) depending on the landscape they created. Year 1 were excited to show the landscapes to one another and they were very proud of themselves.
