Year 2 Art - Investigating Materials
Year 2 investigated tones and shades using charcoal and chalk. They also used wax crayons and pastels using different drawing techniques.
Doodle and Dance Club
Children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had great fun in their first doodle and dance club run by Mrs Wilkinson. They doodled on wallpaper and drew their favourite things and then all had a dance to lots of different songs. We can't wait for next week.
Year 5 Art
Year 5 started their new art topic on mixed media portraits, this week. They used a photo of themselves to produce a self portrait comprised entirely of text. They also painted a watercolour wash background for their portrait.
Year 1 Art: Making Secondary Colours
As part of our class discussion, we understood that colour is everywhere around us. Artists use colour to make their work stand out, look realistic and appeal to an audience. The children learnt that there are three primary colours: red, yellow and blue. We can make other colours by mixing these three colours together. The children found that red and yellow makes orange, blue and yellow makes green and red and blue makes purple, which are secondary colours. They had lots of fun mixing the paints to reveal what colour they would make.
Year 3 visit the Rose Garden
It was a lovely morning as Year 3 followed the church service with a walk to the rose garden. The children took great pride in spotting their own artwork and their siblings' pieces.
Year 1 Provision: Advent Wreaths
This week in continuous provision, Year 1 created some Advent Wreaths in the spirit of Christmas, as we have been learning about Advent in our collective worships. The candle on the wreaths symbolises Jesus coming to our world as the light. Year 1 really enjoyed this and cannot wait to display these at home.
Year 3- 3D Christmas Cards in the making
Year 3 Elves have begun creating their 3D Christmas cards. From pop-up trees to 3D snowmen, the Elves are working so hard on their designs. We are sure our busy little Elves will finish them all in time for Christmas!
Reception class visit the Rose Garden
Reception class enjoyed their visit to the Rose garden. They looked at all of the Advent art and some of the children were proud to see their artwork. The children sang carols together and they all went to the playground as a special treat.
Year 1 RE: Advent Trail
This afternoon Year 1 took a visit to Whitehall Park so that we could see all of the Advent Art created by our school, which fit nicely into our RE topic surrounding the true meaning of Christmas. As we walked to the park, we thought about the Nativity story. Once we arrived, we discovered that the Wise Men brought Jesus three special gifts: gold (to show respect that Jesus was a king), frankincense (to show that people would worship Him) and myrrh (to show that Jesus would understand suffering). We tried to see if any of the artwork showcased the Wise Men. We discussed that most precious gifts are not expensive, but they have thought and meaning behind them. We also thanked God for the most special gift of all, Jesus.
Year 5 - Whitehall Park
On Tuesday, we visited the rose garden at Whitehall Park to see the wonderful Advent art made by the talented children of St Barnabas. Afterwards, we took advantage of the dry weather by spending our break time on the swings.
Reception: Christmas Cards
Reception class have really enjoyed making Christmas cards for their loved ones. They have made some super cute penguin cards using different coloured paints. The children all wrote their names inside and are looking forward to giving them to their loved ones this Christmas time.
Year 6 - Mary Poppins
As part of our English unit on Mary Poppins, the children created their own chalk-art pieces, taking inspiration from the Match Man’s illustration style. Using descriptive language, setting features and visual imagery, the children designed imaginative playground scenes filled with detail and creativity. These visuals will now act as a stimulus for writing, helping the children develop a new narrative episode that imagines an exciting day out for Mary Poppins.
