Year 4 - Junction 4 Scooter and BMX Opportunity
Year 4 had the amazing opportunity to take part in a scooter and bike festival at Junction 4. The children enjoyed experiments and trying out new skills and tricks and being taught by the mentors that were at the skatepark. The children had an amazing time with lots of children being challenged and going beyond their comfort zone.
Year 4 PSHE - Positive Periods
In Year 4 we have been looking at puberty and how our bodies change. This week we focused on menstruation - what it is, how it happens, how often and how to manage periods. We looked at lots of different types of sanitary wear including panty liners, sanitary towels, tampons, menstrual cups and period pants.
Year 4 Design & Technology - Designing an alarm
In DT today, we have been designing our very own alarm system with a push to make it a push to break switch. The children thought really carefully about their design, what it could be made for and how their circuit would look. We also looked at a book called ‘ When I grow up’ which has been written by some local business owners called Elektec, who we will be having into school in the next few weeks to discuss all things electrical and construction.
Numberfit Fun in Year 4
As part of our mental maths sessions we are taking part in the Numberfit sessions linked to the #Globalchallenge2023. The children complete fun challenges linked to multiplication and fitness in order to take part in the challenge.
Year 4 English - Play scripts - Storyboards
In our English session this morning we have been preparing a story board for our play scripts that we will write next week. We have focused this on our class novel - The Firework Makers Daughter and Chapter 5 which takes place in Razvani’s grotto.
Year 4 - Numberfit Times Tables Challenge
Year 4 are doing a great job of completing the times tables challenges on the Numberfit programme. It certainly got our hearts pumping, as well as our brains working.
Year 5- Religious Education- How does it feel to be victorious?
During our R.E. lesson this afternoon, we discussed the term 'Victory' as a starting point for our class discussion. Some of the things that came to mind were celebration, achievement, brave, joy, happiness and determination. The children then discussed what victorious meant to them and if victory and winning were the same thing. We then watched some of the greatest sports events. Many athletes hope to win, but they also strive to beat their personal best (PB) and so, even if they come last, if it is their personal best, they have been victorious.
Year 4 - Investigating Conductors and Insulators
Happy British Science Week from Year 4. In science this week we have been finding out which materials make good electrical conductors by adding them to our series circuits. Tin foil and steel made great conductors.
Year 4 - Linking Schools Zoom Meeting
The class have loved meeting their link class today. We played games with our linking friends, like Would You Rather...? , Red Card Green Card and Draw a Picture in which children had to draw a picture on their whiteboards while it was balanced on the top of their heads. Thank you St Matthews- we can't wait to meet you soon!

Thank you to all of our wonderful special ladies for attending our Mother’s Day cream tea. A huge thank you to our wonderful FOSB. They are all volunteers and juggle work to make the events a huge success. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes and it is really appreciated by us all. We are very lucky to have you. If anybody would like to help volunteer for any events then we would be really grateful. We hope you all have a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday.
Let’s Go Sing Performance 2023
A huge well done to our school choir for their fabulous performance at the let’s go sing concert tonight. It was a delight to watch you all sing your little hearts out. Thank you so much to Miss Ashworth and Miss Bentham for their commitment to our choir. Thanks to all of the parents, family and friends who came to show their support. I’m sure the children made you so proud as I know they certainly made me the proudest Headteacher ever. Well done you little superstars!
Parents' Evening
Dear Parents and carers, we are holding a face to face parents' evening on Wednesday 5th April in our school hall. Our teachers would also like to share your child's books with you too so that you can see how hard they have been working and you can see what they have been learning this term. Five minute appointments will be available from 2.00pm and 6.00pm. If you are flexible and can attend during school hours and after school, please select in school hours then we can give priority for the after school appointments to parents who are working through the day. Appointments can be booked through the same booking system that we used last year. Please click on the following link stbarnabasdarwen.schoolcloud.co.uk to book an appointment. Please note that the information in the software has been taken from our school management system so please use the information such as title, name, email etc that we have on your child's records. Hopefully you will be able to log in with the same details as last year as those of you who attended last time will already have an account. We politely ask that separated parents try to attend the same appointment so that our teachers don't have to repeat the same information and this also ensures that we have enough appointments for each child in school. However, if there are exceptional circumstances that require you to have separate appointments, please let our class teachers know. Our class teachers and I are really looking forward to welcoming you back into school to share how well your child has progressed this term. Please do not hesitate to message me if you have any issues booking an appointment. Yours Sincerely, Mrs Ham
