Year 4 - Science: Presenting our findings
On Monday, Year 4 did a great job of creating their own group presentations to explain how sound is made, how it travels and how it is received by the human ear.
DT - Be a Baker in Year 4
In DT this morning, we started our new Food Technology unit - Be a Baker. We sampled 7 different types of bread and evaluated the appearance and taste. We then found the country of origin using a laptop and world map to add the countries to.
Year 4 Smart School Council
In our Smart School Council session this morning, we voted on which movie we would like to watch at the Rotakids movie night. It was a split decision in the end between a comedy or sports film. We look forward to hearing the whole school vote.
History in Year 4 - Anglo Saxon and Viking Settlement
Today we started our new history topic - Anglo Saxon and Viking life in Britain. We looked at who they were, why the vikings chose to come to Britain and reasons why they settled here.
Year 4 - A great start to our new English topic
In Year 4, we have started our new English topic based on the book ‘How to be a Viking’ by Cressida Cowell. We had great fun using clues to predict events in the story and using the dice to summarise events in the story.
Amazing Attendance Winners : Spring Term

Year 4 - Easter Artwork Walk
Our Year 4 class, loved visiting the Rose Garden at Whitehall Park yesterday. And what lovely weather we’ve had for it. The children really enjoyed viewing the Easter art created in school, saying prayers and singing songs with the children from Reception class. They even came back to the classroom to write some Easter scavenger hunt clues for the other classes. We hope you and your families have a chance to visit too.
Whole School Worship with Rev Ben
Today in Worship, Rev Ben spoke about the awe and wonder in the events of Easter Sunday. He asked us about how the resurrection changed Mary Magdalene’s life and how the Easter story may make a difference in our lives.
Easter Artwork in Whitehall Park
The children have all been learning about Easter in RE. As part of their learning, they have created some Easter artwork which is displayed in Whitehall park. It will be displayed over the holidays so it is a great opportunity for you to visit with your family.
Year 4 DT Designing and Making Alarms
In our final DT session, we finished making our alarms and then went on to evaluate the process. We looked at what we enjoyed most/least, overcoming problems, changes to make a successful system and what we might do differently next time.
The Happy Tank in Year 4
We have been lucky enough to take part in another Happy Tank workshop this morning. We listened to John Magee, the Kindness Coach whilst he shared parts of his book, using our breathing techniques and positive affirmations. We are going to work hard on filling our lives with happy habits.
Celebration Worship Sports Stars
A huge well done to all of our sports stars who were presented with awards in Celebration Worship this morning. This week Mrs Ham presented awards for the following out of school sports or activities and the children got to stand on the golden podium with pride: Swimming, gymnastics, orienteering, dancing, writing, rainbow badges and the beaver and rainbow of the week. We congratulated our cross country team for their courage and determination at last night's Darwen Cross Country Competition. We thanked our Year 6 Sports Leaders for their successful KS2 inter-house sports competition yesterday as they planned and led it all.
