Year 2 RE - Retelling the Easter Story using a timeline of events
In Year 2, we have been learning more about the key events of Easter. We placed the key events in order and then retold the parts in our own words.
Year 5 - RE
In RE, we compared the stories of Jesus’ death in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark. We found that there are many similarities between the two stories, with both authors writing that Jesus died on the cross at noon with followers offering to ease his suffering with sour wine. Differences between the Gospels include Matthew writing that an earthquake struck at the moment of his death. The children then wrote their own version of the story, choosing which details to add.
Year 3- R.E-The Easter Narrative: A Journey of Mixed Emotions
This afternoon, Year 3 began their new unit, Is the Cross a Symbol of Sadness or Joy? We started with a quick quiz about the Easter story and were reminded of our Questful characters as we prepared for our journey. Following the arrow to show our direction of travel, we looked at the key events of Holy Week, including Palm Sunday, the Temple, the Last Supper, and the Crucifixion. The children discussed the different emotions people experienced throughout the story and shared what they would like to find out on their quest.
Year 5 - Rotakids
Darwen Rotary club will be staging an Easter egg hunt during the Easter weekend. Eggs decorated by a number of schools will be hidden around Darwen, including popular walking routes and the town centre. 20 eggs will have a golden heart on the back and you can exchange one for an Easter egg at By Erin Gift shop.
Reception - RE - The Lost Coin Parable
In our lesson today we read the Parable of The Lost Coin and discussed how it feels to lose something special and how happy we feel when we find it. We talked about celebrating together and how God feels when he finds someone who is lost. We then worked in groups to find lost coins outside and celebrated together when we found them.
Whole School Worship - Ramadan
During worship, we were also treated to a special and informative reflection on Ramadan, thoughtfully led by Miss Kachwalla. The session helped us to understand the importance of this sacred month in Islam — a time of prayer, fasting, reflection and generosity. We learned about how Muslims around the world show dedication, self-discipline and compassion during Ramadan, and how values such as kindness, gratitude and community are central to this time. It was a wonderful opportunity to deepen our understanding, celebrate diversity within our school community and reflect on the shared values that bring us together. We also looked at the similarities between Lent and Ramadan and how they were both important times to give to others and give food up or fast to feel closer to God.
Year 1 RE: Signs of Spring
In our RE lesson today, we went on a walk to spot the Signs of Spring. We were looking for growth, colour, new life and change. On our way, we saw lots of new flowers starting to grow and blossom. The trees are starting to change from Winter and growing their leaves. Year 1 also saw lots of squirrels on their way. As it is Spring, we also walked in lots of rain and noticed that the rivers are starting to fill. We may have to go on another walk in a few weeks to see more changes as Spring progresses.
Year 4 - RE: A-Cross The World Project
We've already begun creating our Easter artwork in Year 4. This year, each class has chosen a style of cross from a different country or culture. In Year 4, we learned about the Peruvian cross tapestries made from 100% sheep’s wool and coloured with natural dyes. These tapestries were inspired by the tradition from Chile of using rags to create dolls and embroidering them onto larger pieces of cloth. These were called arpilleras. We used the geometric style of the Peruvian cross as a basis for our oil pastel creations, using a range of horizontal lines merged together to create a gradient of colours.
Reception - The Sower and the seeds Parable
Today we learnt from the The Sower and the Seeds Parable. We talked about the hidden lesson and how the seeds are our ideas, and our minds and our hearts are the ‘good’ soil if we listen and learn. We can learn about God and then tell stories about him to others.
Whole School Worship with Rev Ben
Today we had Whole School Worship with Rev Ben. We started with a game of guess who looking at photos and saying their name. Rev Ben then asked us what they had in common. We realised that they were all in charge of something. Our Bible story then told us about what Jesus is in charge of. It was The Storm on The Lake. After a long day of teaching, Jesus and his disciples crossed the Sea of Galilee in a boat. Jesus fell asleep, but a violent storm arose, terrifying the disciples as waves filled the boat. They woke Jesus, who calmed the wind and waves with "Peace, be still," showing his power and teaching them to trust him. We talked about how Jesus is in charge of things that ordinary people can’t control. Sometimes it’s hard to have courage especially when facing things you can’t control.
Whole School Worship with Rev Ben
Today's Collective Worship with Rev Ben started with a guessing game where half of a celebrity's face was covered and the children had to guess who it was. The last celebrity was Mrs Ham and we learnt that working out who people are is important, but not always easy! Our Bible story today told us something important about Jesus. Jesus could make sick people well. Jesus wanted to help the man in the story and he told him that his sins were forgiven but the man was lame. Jesus said this to show how he can help people with what’s wrong on the outside and the inside.
Year 4 - RE: Transfiguration Art
Following on from the children’s study of the Transfiguration, this week in RE, the children looked at a selection of artworks representing Jesus’ transfiguration and used these to gather ideas in groups. They then created their own transfiguration art in chalks on the playground. Each group was able to point out Jesus, Moses, Elijah and the disciples, and they could explain how they portrayed Jesus’ divinity through the use of shapes, symbols and colours.
