Year 1 RE- Representing the Events of the Easter Story
After spotting lots of sign of Spring (new life) on the way to Whitehall Park, Year 1 got to work on making an Easter Garden to represent the events of the Easter Story. They mainly focused on the resurrection of Jesus and went in search of a perfect place for the tomb. They were very creative and showed a brilliant understanding. Some children used a plant pot whilst others used a tree hollow or a burrow/hole in the ground. They then collected resources such as a stone to show that the tomb had been opened, sticks to make a cross for the crucifixion and leaves to represent palm leaves. Well done Year 1- they were fantastic! By walking there and back, we also collectively walked 45km to contribute to the Big Lent Walk.
Year 5 - Year of Prayer
Year 5 took part in a special Year of Prayer activity, playing ‘The Floor is Lava’ while reflecting on gratitude and thankfulness. As they moved between safe spaces, they shared what they were thankful for, recognising the joy, happiness and blessings in their lives. A wonderful way to combine faith, fun and reflection!
Year 1- Year of Prayer- Thanking God For His Love
This week for the year of prayer, Year 1 played a game of ‘the floor is lava’ but with huge love hearts that were scattered around the room. They had to move around the room only touching the love hearts whilst thanking God for his love for us. We decided that God’s love is especially important to us when we are finding things tricky or we are feeling sad.
Year 2 - Year of Prayer
Here are the last two weeks of Year 2's Year of Prayer. Both weeks, the children have written prayers for different reasons. Last week, we wrote prayers to say sorry to God. We said sorry for either something we have done or for something happening in the world we are sorry for. After we had written them, we tore them into pieces and threw them into the air. We discussed how doing this was like we were moving on and being forgiven. This week, it was time for a game of the floor is lava! Each child had to jump into a love heart with a partner. Every time this happened, we said prayers to say thank you to God. We had very thoughtful prayers including saying thank you for: fruit and vegetables, our homes, being healthy, our friends, living in a safe country and our families. It was a lovely opportunity to go into their spirituality garden and give thanks for all the amazing things on our lives.
Year 3- R.E- Exploring Sadness and Joy of Easter
In R.E, Year 3 learned about the events of Palm Sunday. They watched a short film showing Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem and discussed the different emotions of the people in the story. The crowd was excited and joyful, waving palm branches and shouting "Hosanna!" because they believed Jesus was their King. The disciples felt proud and amazed as they walked beside Jesus and saw how much people loved Him. Jesus himself was calm but thoughtful, knowing what was to come. However, the Pharisees were angry and worried because they didn’t like how many people followed Jesus. The children learnt that Easter Sunday is both joyful and sad because it brings together the emotions of Good Friday and the Resurrection of Jesus.
Reception: The Last Supper
Reception continued their Easter learning in RE by finding out about Passover. They listened to the story of the Last Supper and roleplayed the story. The children gave thanks to God and remembered Jesus who sacrificed himself. The children drank juice and shared bread together to remember the story.
Year 4 - Class Worship: John’s Vision of Heaven
In class worship, we worshipped with Lisa, Liz and Bishop Philip at Worship Together Across the Diocese. This week’s story was taken from the final book of the Bible, in which John described his vision of heaven in detail. Bishop Philip explained John’s Vision and how Christianity is about knowing what God has planned for us, what He tells us the world will one day be like and seeking comfort and clarity in that. Following this, Year 4 spent some time thinking about what Earth will be like once God’s plan is realised, and also what heaven might look like to each of us. The children drew their ideas about heaven and gave some lovely, thoughtful explanations about their loved ones all being together and there being peace in every area of the world.
Year 3- Year of Prayer-Thanking God for his love for us
This week for Year of Prayer, Year 3 went to the peace garden. They imagined the ground was lava and only 'love hearts' were safe to touch. Hopping between these hearts, they thanked God for his love, exemplified by the beauty of creation surrounding them the flowers, the gentle breeze, and the warmth of the sun all testaments to His care. They also acknowledged His love in providing them with family, friends, and the gift of each new day, a constant reminder of His presence.
Year 2 - Year of Prayer
This week our year of prayer, was using pipe cleaners to decorate our prayer tree with lots of lovely prayers. The children had a chance to write a please or thank you prayer before hanging it on our tree. We will use these prayers for our end of day prayer each day. Our next prayers are ‘sorry’ prayers where the children will be able to say sorry for something in their life or something sad that is happening around the world.
Worship with Rev. Matt
Today’s worship with Rev. Matt began with a test of strength. Mr. Bloomfield was challenged to rip three different objects: a piece of paper, a piece of cardboard and a curtain. While the paper and cardboard tore easily, the curtain was more challenging, highlighting its strength and resilience. This demonstration led seamlessly into the powerful moment in the Bible when the great curtain in the temple—the barrier that symbolised separation from God—was torn in two at the moment of Jesus’ crucifixion. Rev. Matt then read the Bible passage describing Jesus’ sacrifice, explaining that when the curtain was torn, it was a sign of God’s deep sorrow but also a powerful symbol that, through Jesus, we are no longer separated from Him. The children reflected on the significance of this moment and how Jesus’ sacrifice allows us to live in a close relationship with God. Following this, the children considered how they could respond by living life in all its fullness. They shared ideas on how to show kindness, forgiveness and love in their daily lives, just as Jesus taught. They discussed ways to help others, make positive choices and appreciate the blessings around them. The worship ended with a moment of reflection, encouraging the children to think about how they can bring goodness into the world, strengthening their connection with God and those around them.
Year 4 - RE: Identifying Betrayal & Trust in the Easter Story
Our Easter topic in Year 4 is well underway now, and this week we were discussing what trust is and what it means to betray someone. We applied our knowledge as we investigated the Easter story for signs of betrayal and trust. We then chose one part of the story to represent each of these two concepts and explain our reasons.
Year of Prayer in Year 1- Sorry Prayers
This week, Year 1 have been writing sorry prayers, screwing these up and throwing them in the bin. Year 1 wrote prayers to say sorry for sometimes shouting at a family member or a friend, being unkind to their brothers and sisters and not listening to their mummy or daddy when they are asked to tidy up for example. We discussed how we all make mistakes and do things that we often later regret but it is how we learn from our mistakes that is important and this is why we say sorry and move forward.
