Year 1 Geography: Fun at Bold Venture Park

To celebrate the end of our long 8km walk, we had lots of fun playing at Bold Venture Park. The children took turns kindly and helped each other on the swings. We could also spot the lion statues that we had seen previously in Darwen Heritage Centre.

Tag Rugby Festival

Some of our Year 6 children had a fantastic time tonight visiting Blackburn Rugby Club for an action-packed session of tag rugby! It was wonderful to watch them master the basics, from perfecting their lateral passes to understanding the strategic flow of the game. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the matches, where the children showed off their newfound skills and sprinted across the line to score some brilliant tries. A huge thank you to the club for hosting us and helping our children discover a new passion for the game! Thanks to our parents and carers for transporting and supporting!

Year 6 - Athletics

This week in PE, Year 6 have been developing their athletics skills and demonstrating fantastic enthusiasm throughout. The children explored effective baton changes in relay running, focusing on timing, communication and smooth transitions to improve overall performance. The children also practised their chest push technique, concentrating on control, balance and generating power, as well as refining their javelin throwing skills with an emphasis on accuracy, distance and safe technique. It has been wonderful to see such great effort, determination and teamwork from all children, with many showing increased confidence and supporting one another to improve. Well done, Year 6!

Reception: Spring Flower Hunt

What a blooming wonderful morning! Our Reception class turned into a team of mini-botanists this morning as they headed out on an exciting spring flower hunt. The children’s eyes lit up as they spotted a vibrant carpet of bluebells and the delicate, tiny petals of forget-me-nots peeking through the grass. We practised our counting while admiring rows of cheerful tulips and bright yellow daffodils, before moving on to marvel at the larger-than-life rhododendrons. The highlight for many was seeing the spectacular, cup-shaped blooms of the magnolia soulangeana, which looked almost like pink and white clouds against the sky. We finished our adventure by identifying the hardy geraniums tucked away in the flower beds. It was a fantastic way to enjoy the fresh air, learn about the change in seasons, and appreciate the incredible colours of nature right on our doorstep!

Year 1 PE: Athletics

In today’s session, we focused on running fast. We discussed that when running fast we need to make sure we are looking in the direction we are running in. To practise, Year 1 had to run around dodging cones, which meant they had to focus on changing directions. We also competed in some beanbag relays, practised our underarm throwing using beanbags and practised hopping with bigger distances.

Year 3- P.E- Developing the Rugby Swing Pass

Today, Year 3 developed their teamwork and technical skills during an Invasion Games lesson focused on Rugby. The children practised the swing pass, focusing on forming a 'W' shape with their hands and swinging the ball from chest to hip height toward their target. They participated in a "Pepper Pot" drill to improve their passing accuracy and speed, working hard to beat their personal bests in a 30-second challenge. A key focus of the lesson was honesty, as groups were responsible for reporting their actual number of successful passes. The children also explored tactics to outwit a defender, such as feinting a pass and moving into open space to receive the ball. To finish, they applied these skills in a 4v1 game, where attackers had to use quick thinking and precise passing to keep the ball away from the defender.

Year 1 PE: Athletics

In our new PE topic, we are focusing on skills that we need in Athletics. We started by focusing on our posture, marching to Grand Old Duke of York whilst balancing a beanbag on our head. Then, we focused on following a leader in partners. In groups, we worked in stations. One station allowed us to practise our posture whilst balancing a beanbag on our head whilst moving between two hoops. The second station allowed us to practise rolling a quoit from one cone to another. The third station allowed us to practise both hopscotch and following a leader.

Reception: Muddy Monday

What a wonderful "Muddy Monday" for our Reception class! The children had a fantastic time exploring the outdoors at Jacks Key Reservoir, keeping their eyes peeled and ears open for the first signs of Spring. It didn't take long for our mini-explorers to spot vibrant yellow daffodils peeking through the grass and delicate blossoms beginning to bloom on the trees. Looking up, we were treated to a beautiful blue sky filled with fluffy white clouds, while the air was alive with the cheerful sound of birds tweeting. To top off our adventure, we even spotted some butterflies fluttering by, confirming that Spring is truly on its way. We are so blessed to have this right on our doorstep!
