Year 1: Fun On The Outdoor Gym
Year 1 had fun together on the outdoor gym. We did not have our usual PE lesson due to a longer history session, so we decided to get outside and do exercise using the outdoor facilities.
Keep Fit Club
Our Key Stage 2 Keep Fit Club had a fantastic, active session today making the most of the gorgeous sunshine! We started our afternoon with a gentle stroll up to Jack Keys and we headed down toward the bicycle path. To cool off after our walk, we headed into the lovely shaded woodland area to do some exploring. It was wonderful to see the children encouraging each other, exploring nature, and getting plenty of fresh air and exercise.
Year 3 Drowning Prevention Week Swimming Lesson
This afternoon, our Year 3 children took part in a vital Drowning Prevention Week swimming lesson, where they were joined by Daniel and three other fantastic firefighters from the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service. The children had a brilliant session and took away some invaluable, life-saving knowledge, including the essentials of CPR, how to stay safe around water, and the correct, safe actions to take to help a friend in difficulty. @lancashirefireandrescueservice(official)and @BWDleisure
Gifted and Talented Gym Squad Competition Preparation
Today our G & T Gymnastics Squad went through their complex routines ready for the competition next Tuesday. The children have worked exceptionally hard to develop these routines and we wish them the best of luck! Watch this space.
Year 4 and 6 Rounders
In our joint PE session today, Year 6 buddied up with Year 4 and showed them how to play rounders. The children worked so well together and it was lovely to see Year 6 supporting and encouraging Year 4. What a great way to end the day!
Year 2 - PE - Fundamental Skills
Year 2 have been improving our overarm throwing and hopping.
DPSSA Netball Finals
What a super evening we have had at the DPSSA Netball Finals at Darwen Vale High School. St Barnabas played three games and fought really hard, encouraged each other and showed respect to their opponents. We came away with silver medals which the children were delighted with. Well done to all of the children that have played over the past few weeks. Go Team B! Thank you to Mrs Gardner and Mr Bloomfield for your support and coaching. A massive thanks to the parents who came along to show their support. We really appreciate it!
Year 5 - PE
In our latest PE lesson, we continued developing skills associated with the game of rounders. We initially focused on accuracy with overarm throwing, with children aiming between two cones from increasing distances away. Then we practised hitting a tennis ball off a cone using a rounders bat, learning how to hold the bat and the importance of looking at the ball in order to hit it.
Year 4 - The GULP Project - Effects of Sugar
In this week’s GULP session, the Year 4 children were learning about the effect that sugary drinks can have on our teeth. They learned how to make healthy choices when deciding how to hydrate themselves and they started an experiment to see which drinks have the worst effect on our teeth. We will find out the results next week. The second part of the session involved physical activity. The children played invasion team games and discussed tactics, giving them the opportunity to adjust their strategies in order to score the maximum points.
Reception: Muddy Monday
The Reception class had a brilliant time during their recent "Muddy Monday" adventure at Whitehall Park! The children leaped enthusiastically into nature, exploring various hidden corners of the park with endless curiosity. Foraging became a massive hit as the little explorers searched for natural treasures, which quickly sparked their imaginations and led to some fantastic outdoor roleplaying games. Energy levels reached an all-time high as the children giggled their way down the grassy hills, rolling over and over, before challenging themselves to climb the park's sturdy trees. It was a wonderful morning proving once again that some of the best learning happens right out in the great outdoors.
Year 6 - Rounders
Year 6 enjoyed an exciting rounders session today, where they demonstrated excellent teamwork, determination and sportsmanship. The children worked hard to develop their batting, bowling and fielding skills, applying what they have learned during lessons. There was plenty of enthusiasm and encouragement throughout the games, with everyone showing a positive attitude and supporting their teammates.
Year 1 PE: Overarm Throwing
Year 1 have been practising their Overarm throwing skills. Today, we have 3 different types of stations. The first challenge was for Year 1 to throw a beanbag onto a shape. The shapes could either score them 2,5 or 10 points. This also helped us to count in our times tables. The second challenge was to throw three quoits into three hoops that were placed at different distances. This was tricky as the quoits can roll away so Year 1 had to use the correct amount of power in their throw. The final challenge was passing to each other, alternating between overarm and underarm throwing.
