Year 4 - P.E. : Orienteering
This week, our Year 4s have been learning to read maps with a key in P.E. The character development focus is teamwork, and the teams that were the most successful were those that planned out what they would do, shared out roles and listened to each other. They read the funny face maps really well and so we had time to work on understanding common symbols in a key through a symbol and word card matching game. Next, they will be heading outdoors to familiarise themselves with the map of the school grounds.
Year 4 BRFC League
This evening, Year 4 kicked off their journey in the BRFC league with three exciting matches. They narrowly lost a hard-fought game against Shadsworth, 3-2, but bounced back with a 3-1 victory over St. Peter’s. They finished on a high with an impressive 8-1 win against St. Barnabas and St. Paul’s. The team played brilliantly, demonstrating great teamwork and sportsmanship while proudly representing their school.
Year 5 - Gaelic Football
Yesterday, Year 5 took part in their first Gaelic football session, where they were introduced to the fundamentals of the sport. The children explored key skills such as passing, catching and travelling with the ball, developing their coordination and teamwork. They engaged in fun, fast-paced drills to build confidence and understanding of the game’s unique techniques. Throughout the session, the children demonstrated enthusiasm and perseverance, embracing the challenge of learning a new sport.
Year 1 PE- Rolling a Ball
Yesterday in their PE session, Year 1 focused on the skills of rolling a ball, hopping and balancing. They practised accurately rolling a ball at or through multiple targets, balancing a beanbag on their head and doing the hopscotch.
Cross country
This Tuesday, cross country club continued with a 20 minute run around Jack’s Key. Next week we will repeat our run and hope to improve our times. We have a few more sessions to be ready for our competition.
Netball Club Fun in the Sun
Netball Club started again this week and it was so good to see the children so keen and enthusiastic. As this is our second round of club, we went straight into games concentrating on skill development and key rules. The children rotated positions and worked hard to develop their understanding of new roles.
Reception: Muddy Monday
Our Reception class went to Whitehall park for the first time for their Muddy Monday session. They found pine cones, climbed trees, looked for minibeasts and made dens. The children loved exploring the area for their forest schools session and we can't wait to visit again soon.
Year 6 P.E - Gaelic Football
Year 6 have begun a new P.E unit, this week: Gaelic football, an Irish team sport. A form of football, it is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goal. For this first session, the children mainly focused on the key skills of the game. They had a lot of fun!

Year 4 Hockey with Progressive Sports
In our first hockey session this half term we had the pleasure of having specialist coaching from Progressive Sports. We started with the basics learning all about how to hold a hockey stick, basic rules and dribbling with a ball. Once we had mastered dribbling, we moved onto stopping the ball and avoiding each other by taking the ball in a different direction.
Year 3 - P.E- Hockey
To begin our invasion games unit focused on hockey, a specialist provided instruction on core skills, emphasising sending and receiving the ball. The children will build on this foundation by participating in small-sided games designed to develop and apply invasion game strategies.
Year 2 - PE
In PE this week, we began our new learning about striking and fielding. Today we took the first step in learning how to effectively strike an object. We began with shuttlecocks being dropped from our own hand. The children quickly got the hand of this and realised it was all about timing and keeping your eye on the shuttlecock. Over the coming weeks we will progress our skills allowing us to hit moving objects.
