DPSSA Swimming Gala
What an incredible evening we had last night at Darwen Primary Schools Swimming Gala at Darwen Leisure Centre. Team B absolutely smashed it with such courage and determination. We had lots of children stepping out of their comfort zones, with quite a few still only in Year 4 and representing Team B in such an immense way! We came away with a huge medal haul and it was such an honour to support and watch our children at a great event. Well done and many thanks to all of the parents, carers and families who came down to support - we were definitely the smallest yet loudest team by far. Go Team B!
DPSSA Y5/6 Cross Country at Witton

We came away with some wonderful placing and really represented our school showing determination, encouraging others and respect to everyone involved. Well done to all of the children and thanks to all of our parents for their continued support.

Reception: Muddy Monday
Today our Reception children explored a different area of Whitehall Park. The children created bug houses and dens together. They also found some sticks and pretended to create fires and also used them as drum sticks. Some of the children tried to climb trees and it was lovely to see how brave they were all being whilst developing their fundamental skills. In addition, the children collectively walked 75km to contribute to our Lent Challenge. Well done!
Year 6- St James's Park, London
Year 6 had a fantastic time playing on the play area in St James's Park after a picnic lunch. It was wonderful to see everyone getting along and playing with their friends.
Year 1 PE- Rolling a Ball
In their PE lessons, Year 1 are really starting to show that they are mastering the correct technique for rolling a ball accurately. They are working extremely hard to swing their hand back and down whilst their knees are bent and their chest is facing forwards. This week, we really focused on rolling the ball straight by ensuring that we make use of our free arm by aiming it at our intended target. We did this through a game called, ‘Roll and Jump.’
Year 2 - Striking a ball
This week in PE, Year 2 continued to practise striking a ball. In this session, we moved onto bowling the ball to our partner. We practiced bowling to each other and focused on making sure the ball bounced in the correct spot with the ideal amount of force. After that, we introduced racquets where our partners had to strike the ball in a controlled way to return it. The children have improved and developed their skills enormously and they will be able to use them more and more as they play games in PE throughout school.
Year 4 - BRFC League
Another fantastic effort from our Year 4 football team tonight! They played three matches, securing a dominant 6-0 win against St Barnabas and St Paul’s, battling to a thrilling 3-3 draw against St Peter’s, and finishing strong with a 2-0 victory over Shadsworth. A brilliant performance from all the players—well done!
Year 6 Gaelic Football
During this week’s Gaelic football session, the children built on the skills they learned last week, for example the hand pass and hook kick, to play proper team matches. It was a lot of fun!
Year 5 - Gaelic Football
Today, Year 5 had an exciting session playing Gaelic football! They developed their passing, catching and teamwork skills while learning the unique rules of the game. The children showed great enthusiasm and determination, adapting quickly to the fast-paced nature of Gaelic football. It was fantastic to see their confidence grow throughout the session. Well done, Year 5!
Reception: Muddy Monday
The children in Reception walked 3.5km each this week to contribute further to our Big Lent Walk in aid of CAFOD. They walked to Whitehall Park and continued with their outdoor learning. This week the children found pine cones, climbed trees and found minibeasts. They also enjoyed creating dens and roleplaying around a camp fire!
