Year 3- P.E-Tig Games Through Time
In P.E., Year 3 have been developing their skills in dodging and changing direction through a variety of tig games. We played Stuck in the Mud and a 1940s favourite, Hospital Tig. The children explored different strategies to avoid being tagged, such as quick changes of direction, bending their knees, and pushing off quickly to move away. They also practised safe tagging techniques and learned how to work together to free their classmates. Everyone enjoyed the challenge and showed great curiosity in exploring new ways to play.
Year 6 - Striking and Fielding
Today, Year 6 continued their cricket unit with a focus on batting technique. The children explored how adapting their stance and body position enables them to direct the ball into specific spaces, developing control, precision and strategic awareness in gameplay.
Year 3-Swimming Information & Kit List
This afternoon, our Year 3 class met with Nicola, a swimming instructor from Darwen Leisure Centre, to prepare for our upcoming lessons. The instructor answered all of the children's questions and explained what they can expect during their first session on Friday, September 12th.
Year 6 - Cricket
Today, Year 6 began their new cricket unit, with a focus on bowling skills. The children explored both underarm and overarm techniques, concentrating on accuracy and consistency when aiming at targets. They worked in pairs and small groups to practise their delivery, giving each other feedback and refining their technique.
Year 5 P.E
Year 5’s P.E unit for this half term is gymnastics. In this week’s lesson, the children began to develop gymnastics routines using a combination of mirrored and matched balances, counter-balances and travelling movements.
Year 4 PE - Learning Boccia Skills
In our PE session this afternoon, we were introduced to Boccia which is a precision ball sport. We practiced in smaller groups and tried to improve our precision. We tried to get the Boccia balls as close to the Jack as possible with the closest winning the game. The children became better and better over the course of the lesson and can’t wait to develop their skills even further in our next lesson.
Year 2 PE- Gymnastics and Fundamental Skills
In their PE lesson this week, Year 2 followed the theme of Jack and the Beanstalk. To retell various parts of the story, they had to combine gymnastics with fundamental skills such as balancing, overarm throwing and jumping two feet to two feet.
Reception: Exploring Outdoors
Reception class have really enjoyed exploring our outdoor area. They put on their puddlesuits and learnt what they could do outside.
Year 3- P.E- Track, Throw, Jump
For their final athletics P.E. lesson, Year 3 took part in three core tasks and recorded their times and distances to track their performance. In ‘Take Aim’, they worked in pairs to practise sling, push, and pull throws, aiming at targets to score points based on accuracy. In ‘Furthest Five’, they worked in groups of three to perform a combination of five different jumps with a run-up, aiming to reach the furthest distance while focusing on technique. In ‘Pass the Baton’, they ran relays in teams of four, aiming to complete as many laps as possible in three minutes, using teamwork, strategy, and baton-passing skills.
Edstart Jag Tag Tournament
Today we took part in the Edstart Jag Tag Tournament at Our Lady St John. We played against other schools from across the Borough and managed to secure some wonderful results. St Barnabas vs St Paul’s Hoddlesden - 12-0 win St Barnabas Vs St Anthony’s 8-0 win St Barnabas Vs Audley 14-6 win St Barnabas Vs Daisyfield Once we progressed to the Semi Final we met Audley again which resulted in a 18-0 win and then the final game was against St Anthony’s and we managed to come away with a sixth consecutive win of 12-0. Huge thanks to Marcus @Edstart for organising the tournament- it was fantastic to see everyone taking part with huge smiles on their faces and showing super sportsmanship. What a way to end such a successful sporting calendar! Go Team B!
Year 3&4 Quad Kids
Today, our talented Year 3 & 4 Quad Kids represented the school at the Lancashire School Games! They took part in a series of athletic events including the 400m run, vortex throw, 50m sprint and long jump. Each child gave their all, showing fantastic determination, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Well done to all involved – a brilliant effort and a proud day for our school!
Year 5 - Striking and Fielding
Today, Year 5 continued their unit on striking and fielding, focusing more closely on striking the ball with accuracy and exploring tactics to use effectively during gameplay. The children worked on improving their hand-eye coordination, positioning and decision-making skills, applying these in small team games to develop a deeper understanding of both attacking and defensive strategies.
