SIG5 Times Tables Competition
We are so proud of our amazing mathematicians for showing great courage when taking part in the School Improvement Group (SIG) timestables competition at St Peter's. Our SIG is made up of 12 other local schools and this was the first timestables competition. Two children were chosen to represent our school from each KS2 class and they had to take part in a TT Rockstars battle with the other schools. We were amazed at the speed of the some of the competitors at some of the other schools and it has made us more determined to keep practising our tables and aim to get faster and faster. Thank you to Mr Prescott, our Maths Leader, for organising our school maths team and to St Peter's for hosting it.
Year 6 Money Matters
The focus of year 6’s money matters session was gambling. The children gained an understanding of how addictive gambling can become and the impact it can have on someone’s life. This was illustrated really clearly to the children in a game they played in which they could place bets with artificial money.
Year One Maths-Using a Numberline to Compare and Order Numbers
This week, Year 1 have been making use of number lines to 20 to compare and order numbers. They have subitising numbers to 20, finding these numbers on their number lines and then deciding which numbers are the greatest and smallest. They have been working on their ability to explain how they have subitised the numbers and also on how they have come to the decision that a number is greater or smaller by thinking about its proximity to zero.
Reception- Maths- finding different ways of making numbers to ten
In maths we have been looking at different ways of making numbers to ten. We have been doing this in various ways, we have used the Hungarian tens frame and we have also used a computer program called ‘ways to make’. The children are really starting to understand numbers in more depth.
Year 5 - Multiplication
Today, Year 5 have been exploring multiplying two digit numbers by two digit numbers. The children used an area model to understand the place value within the multiplication to answer the questions. This helped the children gain a deeper understanding of the material; understanding the role that place value plays when multiplying by a two digit number.
Reception Maths - composition of 5
Reception have been finding different ways to make 5 using two colours and five frames.
Year 2 - P.E.
This week, we combined our knowledge of shapes from our maths work and our superb P.E skills. After warming up, we jumped into shapes and out of them ready for our landings. The children loved showing off new shapes they jumped into. Some shapes made it more difficult to land so it was important to be quick in and out of the shapes.
Year 2 - Maths
We have moved onto from 2D shapes to 3D shapes. This week we have been counting faces, edges and vertices on 3D shapes. It can be difficult to count without losing count or counting the same one twice. We have found strategies to make sure our counting is accurate.
Reception - Ordering Numbers
Reception have been working hard to sequence numbers 1-10. They have been using their counting skills to check which number comes next to ensure they are in the right order.
Year 1 Maths
Year One are focusing on numbers to 20. They have been identifying and representing numbers in many different ways for example with Rekenreks, Numicon, tally, ten frames and base 10.
Year 3- Maths- Multiply and Divide by 3.
Today, the Year 3 class progressed in their understanding. They explored the concept of division by 3, actively engaging in activities where they shared objects into three equal groups and grouped items in sets of three. Furthermore, they applied this knowledge by drawing jumps on the number line to solve problems involving dividing given numbers by 3.
Year 1 Maths- Using rekenreks
Year 1 have been working hard in their maths lesson this morning. They have been making 11, 12 and 13 using the rekenreks to help them to understand that these numbers are made up of tens and ones.
