Charlotte from Elektec- D.T- Year 6, Year 5, Year 4 and Year 3
Charlotte from Eeltkec delivered a great talk about the importance of encouraging women to become electricians and the various types of jobs that electricians can do. She also highlighted the importance of safety when working on construction sites, as well as the value of education in becoming a successful engineer, plasterer, architect, or electrician. It was also great to hear about efforts to promote gender diversity in traditionally male-dominated fields. The children were actively engaged in the assembly and asked lots of great questions. Charlotte shared that meeting the King is definitely a noteworthy achievement. It's great that Charlotte was able to share her success story with the children and motivate them to strive for their own achievements and goals.
DT - Be a Baker in Year 4
In DT this morning, we started our new Food Technology unit - Be a Baker. We sampled 7 different types of bread and evaluated the appearance and taste. We then found the country of origin using a laptop and world map to add the countries to.
Year 1- fruit and yogurt pots in D.T.
After food tasting and designing our yogurt pots today was the day we got to make them and eat them! We’ve had such an great time making them and an even better time eating them!
Year 3 DT
Year 3 have completed their DT practical work today, after previous lessons thinking about what makes a composite meal, then planning our healthy sandwich, we have compiled all of our knowledge and made our own sandwiches. I think you will agree they look absolutely delicious, well done Year 3!
Year 1 DT Healthy and unhealthy foods Walk to Sainsburys
Today Year 1 walked to a local supermarket to look at different types of foods that are unhealthy and healthy for breakfast. In design and technology lessons we are looking at different types of breakfast foods and where foods come from. The children enjoyed finding different types of food in the aisles in Sainsburys and seeing the variation of products on offer. They had a super walk in their wellies where we got a better look at India Mill chimney and even got to go down the slide in the park on the way home too.
Year 4 DT Designing and Making Alarms
In our final DT session, we finished making our alarms and then went on to evaluate the process. We looked at what we enjoyed most/least, overcoming problems, changes to make a successful system and what we might do differently next time.
Year 6- The Lion King in the West End
Our Year 6 class and other members of our performing arts club, will be performing their own version of the Lion King at the end of the year. What better way to get some inspiration and tips than to watch The Lion King in the West End at the Lyceum Theatre. All of the children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the performance and were fascinated by the imaginative set changes, amazing costumes and fabulous acting, dancing and singing. We are full of ideas and inspiration for our Lion along production now and can’t wait to perform it.
DT in Year 4 - Designing and Making an Alarm System
In our DT session today, we have finished our alarm designs and started to created them by gathering all of the relevant components for the circuit. We thought really carefully about electrical safety, how to make an effective design and what to do if something goes wrong.
Year 5- Science- Egg Zip Line Challenge
The Year 5 scientists had a fun science afternoon. They made parachutes to learn about air resistance and tried out egg zip lines. They made special harnesses using pipe cleaners to safely transport eggs down the zip wire. It was a great way for them to learn about science and engineering whist having fun!
Year 4 - Circuits Dance
We are having great fun putting together our Year 4 dance routine. We are taking inspiration from our science and DT work on circuits.
Year 3 Food Technology: Savoury Cracker
In Design and Technology, Year 3 have been practising their cutting, slicing and spreading skills in preparation for making our own sandwiches. We prepared our own savoury crackers and thought about how we need to get ready to cook, by washing our hands and getting our ingredients ready. Before preparing our crackers, we learnt about using the bridge cut and claw grip, to ensure we are cutting and slicing safely.
Year 4 Design & Technology - Designing an alarm
In DT today, we have been designing our very own alarm system with a push to make it a push to break switch. The children thought really carefully about their design, what it could be made for and how their circuit would look. We also looked at a book called ‘ When I grow up’ which has been written by some local business owners called Elektec, who we will be having into school in the next few weeks to discuss all things electrical and construction.
