Year 2 - DT Windmills
During our year 2 DT unit the children have been exploring the use of different materials to build their structures of the windmills. They have used lots of techniques and materials to test and evaluate base structures.
Year 5- Food Skills
In Food Technology, the children practised food preparation skills (bridge hold, claw grip and grating) this afternoon.
Year 2 - Wacky Windmills
During our DT unit, year 2 have been designing and looking at structures to build their own windmills. The children have looked at a variety of windmills and have started to design structures and windmill concepts to design their final pieces looking at all types of materials.
Year 2 - Windmills
For our Design & Technology unit year 2 have been exploring the functions and structure of lots of different types of windmills. We looked at all the functions individually and carefully looked at each one in order to build that knowledge to design and create our own windmill.
Be a Baker Part 2 - Bread Making and Cooking
Be a Baker Part 2 when we rolled our bread into different shapes such as plaited, cottage, hedgehog and knotted. We then popped them in the oven for twelve minutes and voila! Amazing results Year 4.

Year 5- Class Worship- The Coronation of King Charles III
During class worship this morning, the children watched a short film all about the coronation. We joined Elysha on a journey with her friend to discover the history and importance of the Coronation, the role of the King, and the importance of the Monarchy around the world. The children also learnt that Constance Spry invented the coronation chicken in 1953. She was also asked to arrange the flowers in Westminster Abbey and along the route for Queen Elizabeth's coronation. We spoke about mutual respect and tolerance to the lives and beliefs of others. We ended the class worship with a prayer, thanking God for all the wonderful things we can celebrate.
Year 5- Food Technology- Visiting the Herb Garden at Whitehall Park
We visited the herb garden at Whitehall Park to give us some inspiration for our salad. The children were amazed by the variety of seeds planted. Some of The things the children saw were spuds, garlic, ginger, spring onions, fenugreek, mint, strawberries, and spring onions and garlic.
Year 6 DT
In DT, year 6 have been investigating beam and arch bridges. They have been looking at how these types of bridges can be reinforced in order to make it stronger. They found out that adding an arch to their design made the structure considerably stronger.
Year 5- Food Technology- Researching the different types of salads
In D.T this afternoon, the children have been using the internet (BBC FOOD) to research a selection of different salads, recording their ingredients and the food groups where the ingredients belong.
Year 6 DT
In their second DT session on structures, year 6 focused on truss bridges. They found out that the simple triangle can make such a difference to the strength of a bridge as it shares the weight out evenly. They had lots of fun making their own truss bridges out of spaghetti, but will start to look at the importance of using the right material for the job and why spaghetti probably isn’t the best choice.
Charlotte from Elektec visit: EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2
Charlotte from Elektec came to visit Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 today. The children watched a video to show how electricity is made. The children found out how electricity is made in a power station and the pylons help to carry the electricity to our houses. Charlotte asked the children what happens if you touch electricity. James said that you could get electrocuted which is absolutely right. Charlotte showed a photograph and the children had to guess what it was. Well done to Eliza who explained they are solar panels. Charlotte explained how they work and how sunlight heats the solar panels to make electricity. Charlotte also showed an electric car and showed a charging point. Charlotte explained that we will need to have a lot of electricians to help install the charging points and solar panels. Charlotte explained that Elektec is managed by herself and her husband. Charlotte and Carl’s children also work for the company and create videos. Charlotte shared a video of her Electots explaining what their company does. The Prince’s trust has helped set the company up and Charlotte has even met the king! Tristen, Sofia, Ella-Grace and Harry helped Charlotte to show how electricians keep safe. Glasses protect our eyes, a hard hat protects our head, a high vis jacket is worn so that everybody can see the electrician and a warning sign is used when an electrician is working on site to keep everybody safe. Charlotte showed a picture of the electricians that work in her company who are all men! This makes Charlotte sad and she explained to the children that girls can be just as good as boys and girls can be electricians too. Charlotte explained that to be an electrician you have to be good at Maths, be friendly, be good at puzzles, be able to follow the rules and be able to stay safe. Charlotte discussed what construction meant and she showed how a new house is built and the people who are involved from architects to decorators. Again, there aren’t many girls who work in construction. Charlotte shared her book called ‘When I grow up’ which explains how you can be anything that you want to be. Thank you so much to Charlotte for visiting, we had a wonderful time and left feeling inspired.
