Year 2-Mystery Reader

To celebrate our Give Like Dolly Day and the National Year of Reading, Year 2 had a very special visit from Luna’s mummy, who is also one of our wonderful Governors. She read Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers — what a beautiful choice! The story shared some very important messages about being kind, caring for our planet, and remembering that we are never alone in this world. A huge thank you to Caterina for taking the time to come in and visit our class. 🌍✨📖

Year 2 Art- Clay Tiles

Today in Art, Year 2 continued developing their clay skills by creating and decorating their very own clay tiles. The children began by rolling out their clay using a rolling pin before carefully cutting around a rectangular template to create the shape of their tile. They then explored different techniques to decorate their work. Using the **score and slip technique**, they added clay decorations to their tiles, as well as experimenting with a variety of objects to create interesting patterns, textures and imprints. Next lesson will be their **final clay session**, where they will bring together all the skills they have developed to design and create their very own **clay tile inspired by a house**. We can’t wait to see their ideas take shape! 🏠✨

Friday Celebration Worship

This morning, Mrs Ham opened our Celebration Worship by telling us that today is World Smile Day. We talked about how smiles are infectious and how we are going to work even harder than we normally do to put a big smile on people’s faces and spread happiness, love and kindness. This week, we have enjoyed a wonderful variety of extra-curricular clubs, some fantastic worships and an extra-special day yesterday, celebrating National Poetry Day and Give Like Dolly Day. We then presented our Barney’s Brilliant Beacons. A huge well done to Reggie, Minnie, Luna, Poppy, Everley and Matthew in EYFS and KS1, and Joey, Skye, Marley, Mila, Iris, Oliver and Tristen in KS2. Well done to these fantastic children for their exemplary behaviour, exceptional attitudes to learning and for consistently demonstrating our Barney’s 4Bs and our Christian Values. We are incredibly proud of you! Looking ahead to next week, we are excited to welcome families to our second Open Day for the 2027 Reception intake on Wednesday, as well as our Stay and Play session in EYFS on Thursday. We will also be celebrating Hello Yellow Day next Friday, 9th October, before coming together for a special Harvest Service at St Barnabas Church on Sunday, 11th October. We ended our worship by congratulating Year 4 on being our Walk to School Winners for September, followed by some beautiful prayers from Iris, Alfie and Mrs Ham. What a wonderful way to end another fantastic week at Barney’s! 🌟

Year 2- Give Like Dolly Day

Today, Year 2 have enjoyed a wonderful joint Give Like Dolly Day and National Poetry Day! Throughout the day, the children have enjoyed listening to lots of poems and each performed a verse of Oh Dear by Michael Rosen. We also learned all about Dolly Parton and her incredible generosity and kindness through our Whole School Worship and by reading Little People, Big Dreams: Dolly Parton. We found out how Dolly set up her special Imagination Library, which helps to send books to children in need. To finish the day, we spent the last 15 minutes completing some lovely Dolly Parton and Imagination Library colouring activities and having a go at a Dolly Parton word search. Well done, Year 2, for all your fantastic efforts with your dressing up today and for helping us to raise money for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which gifts more than 7 million books each year! What a wonderful way to celebrate kindness, generosity and our love of books.

Year 2 Science- Microhabitats

Today in Science, Year 2 put their planning into action and created their very own microhabitats! They used a range of recyclable materials, including egg cartons, yoghurt pots, boxes and plastic bottles, and filled them with natural materials they found themselves. These included moss, sticks, bark, grass, flowers, soil and leaves. What a fantastic effort, Year 2! We’re looking forward to seeing which minibeasts come to visit and discovering the different creatures that make these microhabitats their home.

Year 2 Geography- Continents and Oceans

In Geography, we are learning to name and locate the seven continents and five oceans of the world. Today, we wrote our own riddles with clues to help Miss Flynn and Miss Lyons guess the continent or ocean we were writing about. Our clues included using positional language (near, above, below, next to, beside etc..), the size, the temperature and the compass direction to help us to explain which continent or ocean we were describing.
