Year 1 Maths
Year 1 have been making numbers between 10 and 20 on their bead strings. They have been looking at ways to do this with more efficiency e.g. for 17, you move 5 and 5 which is 10, then another 5 followed by a 2. Great work Year 1.
FOSB Christmas Gift Shop
The children have really enjoyed buying items from our Christmas gift shop. A huge thank you to our FOSB group for making it such a huge success!
A special visit from Father Christmas
Our infant classes were over the moon to have a special visit from Father Christmas after their parties. They all received a special gift for working so hard and behaving so well.
Year 1’s visit from Santa
Year 1 had a magical visit from Father Christmas after their Christmas party. The look of excitement on their faces was priceless.
Infant Christmas lunch
Our infants really enjoyed their Christmas lunch today. It was wonderful to see them cracking crackers with their friends and wearing their party hats. We had a singalong to some of our favourite Christmas songs too. Thank you Mellors for the lovely Christmas lunch!
Year 1 Nativity
Our Year 1 children made us all so proud with their wonderful Nativity. They sang beautifully and said their lines clearly and with confidence. The parents and grandparents loved it. You are all superstars!
Year 1- 2D and 3D shapes.
Year 1 have been sorting 2D and 3D shapes in different ways. They sorted them in many different ways e.g. those that can and can’t roll, those that have triangular faces and don’t, those that have circular faces and don’t and those that have square faces and don’t.
Year 1 Maths- Making 3D shapes

Year 1 Phonics- learning new graphemes.
Year 1 are working very hard on their phonics. They are learning new graphemes for sounds that they already know. They now know lots of ways of writing the ai, ee and igh sounds. We will now be working on applying these new graphemes in our writing. Well done Year 1.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Every child in school helped to decorate the Christmas tree yesterday. This morning in Worship, Iris, our youngest child in school got to put the star on top of the Christmas tree. It certainly is starting to look, feel and sound like Christmas at St Barnabas.
FOSB Christmas Gift Shop
Our PTFA will be running a Christmas gift shop where the children can buy their Christmas presents for somebody in their family. There will be a selection of presents for adults and children. It will be £5 and with this they will be able to purchase 2 gifts. The presents will be wrapped with a gift tag so it will be a surprise for whoever they have chosen to buy a present for. Money can only be paid on parent pay and you have until Friday 10th December to purchase a ticket to enter the gift shop. The gift shop will be held on Thursday 16th December.
Year 1 RE- Giving to others
As part of their RE unit, Year 1 have been making their calendars in the independent creative area. Tomorrow they will be taking these home and gifting them to their families. Next week, we will be reflecting on how this act of giving has made us and our families feel. Additionally, we are now in December so we have had some kindness elves visit our classroom. Everyday, the kindness elves are leaving a gift to add to a hamper. In the last week of school, we will gift this hamper to our local refugees in the hope that it will make them smile and bring them some comfort over the Christmas period. Again, we will reflect on how this act of giving has made both us and those who receive it feel.
