Year 1- Designing and Making Fire Engines
Year 1 have had an afternoon of designing and making their fire engines in D&T. They decided on their body of fire engine and then planned out what materials and items they were going to use for the, headlights, ladder, windscreen, door and hose to decorate their fire engine. Finally, they joined them together using sellotape, masking tape, staples and glue. Now they need to add the finishing touches such as paint.
Year 1- Interfaith Week
Thank you to Prags for visiting us during Interfaith Week and giving our Year 1 children an insight into Sikhism. They found out lots of new information about Sikhism and the Gurdwara.
Inter-House Dodgeball Event
What a great day we have all had taking part in the inter house dodgeball competition that was organised by The Sports Leaders. Every single class gave their all and it was great to see the smiles in everyone’s faces. We can’t wait to hear who the winners are next week in Celebration Worship. Massive thanks to The Sports Leaders for taking the time to organise and run the event.
Year 1 Design and Technology
As part of our making fire engines D&T unit, Year 1 have been exploring how to make the base of their fire engine using wheels, axles, washers and a chassis. We can’t wait to make the body of our fire engine next week.
Year 1- The Gruffalo
Year 1 have been focusing on the story of The Gruffalo in their English lessons. We have been working on a story map in pictures to help us recall the story and we’ve been describing the character of the Gruffalo. We can’t wait to post a video of us telling the story when we’ve finished our whole story map! We have also played a ‘roll and draw’ game in our continuous provision time against a partner showing super turn taking and understanding of the Gruffalo’s characteristics.
Year 1- Poppy Collages
In their art lessons, Year 1 have been learning about the different textures of materials that can be used within collages and how these materials can be cut, torn and ripped to produce artwork. This week in continuous provision, they have independently applied these skills to create their own poppy collages ready for Remembrance Day next week.
EYFS and KS1 Harvest Worship
Today, our infants led our Harvest worship. They were all superstars and they explained the importance of Harvest. Thank you to all who came to watch.
The Jewish Festival of Sukkot in Year 1
Year 1 have been learning about Sukkot. They have been thinking about how the Jews were held as slaves long ago and they’ve been building Sukkahs just as many Jewish people still do today.
Hello Yellow Day 2021
We have had a brilliant day in school today with all of our children and staff dressing in yellow for Hello Yellow Day. It was topped off with leaving school dancing to the minions ‘happy’ song and being bopped with inflatable bananas by Mrs Ham! Banana #HelloYellow @YoungMindsUK
Year 1 Geography- Hot and Cold Places of the World.
Year 1 have been looking at a map of the world and learning about where the hot and cold places are.

Year 1 have been learning about the different animal groups that there are and sorting animals to reflect their learning.
