Online Safety: WhatsApp

With its end-to-end encryption and huge popularity, WhatsApp is often seen as a private and secure way to stay in touch; however, that same privacy can make it harder for trusted adults to see when things go wrong. This week's #WakeUpWednesday guide explains how features like group chats, disappearing messages, ‘Channels’ and location sharing can expose young users to pressure, unwanted contact and inappropriate content. Year 5 - Money Matters

On Tuesday morning, year 5 learned about financial budgeting. They discussed the differences between wants and needs before thinking about different sources of income and expenditure. The children then practised making their own budget. The children welcomed our visitor into the school with kindness and embraced the opportunity to learn about how money matters.

Year 4 Lead Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week Worship

This morning, Year 4 led a truly inspiring Whole School Worship, centering their message on Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week. It was a colourful and vibrant start to the day, as all the children arrived 'Dressed to Express.' It was wonderful to see the hall filled with different outfits showcasing the children's unique personalities, hidden talents, and favourite colours—a perfect reminder that being ourselves is key to our wellbeing. The children did an amazing job showcasing their oracy skills. They projected their voices clearly and confidently, ensuring their important message was heard by everyone. The other classes were captivated, listening intently as Year 4 explained the vital link between kindness and mental health. They highlighted how simple acts of kindness are not just good for others, but also boost our own happiness and sense of belonging. The class reminded us all that kindness is a superpower that supports a healthy mind and a happy school community. We brought the worship to a close with some beautiful, thoughtful prayers and raised the roof singing along to ‘My Lighthouse.’ A huge thank you to the parents and carers who came along to support the children; your presence made the morning even more special.

Year 1 PSHE: Catch it, Bin it, Kill it

Year 1 continued to learn about the spread of germs and illness in PSHE. We watched a short video explaining that to keep hygienic we should follow 3 steps: catch it, bin it and kill it. We should catch our germs with a tissue, bin the tissue and wash our hands to kill the germs. To make our whole school aware of these rules, we worked in groups to create a poster for each class.

Year 5 - PSHE

Because it is Children’s Mental Health week, we had a special lesson considering what mental health is and how to look after it. We talked about the range of human feelings and how there are bigger and smaller emotions. They can affect all of us in different ways but talking to a trusted person about our feelings can help us understand them. We discussed who the children might want to talk to and how they can be a good listener.

Year 4 - Safer Internet Day: Cyber bullying

In Year 4, we spent Safer Internet Day focussing on a very common issue that many of our school family will probably experience as their internet usage increases: cyber bullying. The topic was introduced to the children sensitively with a look at what cyber bullying may look like. As a class, we read some hypothetical scenarios of unkind messages and shared how we thought the recipient might have felt. We then shared some examples of advice we could give to someone affected by cyber bullying. The children realised that there is a subtle difference between messages aimed at hurting others and those that can be misconstrued. The children were introduced to three options for resolving an issue: block, ignore and tell a trusted adult. They developed skills to help them think critically about what they see online.

Year 3-The Big Winter Wander and Birdwatching,

Year 3 enjoyed a fantastic afternoon participating in The Big Winter Wander! While completing their sponsored walk for the WWF, the children also took part in the RSPB Big Schools Birdwatch. They did an amazing job identifying different species around the school grounds and recording their findings to help track our local bird populations. While on the route, the children also spoke to a member of the council about the location where they will be planting their very own tree this Thursday! It was a wonderful afternoon of nature-focused learning and preparation for our upcoming sustainability project. A huge well done to our wonderful Reception children, who showed incredible determination today taking part in the Big Winter Wander! Our little explorers braved the elements to complete an impressive 2.55km trek around Jack Keys, taking in the sights and sounds of the season while showing fantastic team spirit. We are so proud of how well they handled the distance and represented our school. If you would like to celebrate their achievement and support our fundraising efforts, please consider making a contribution directly to our school page at https://socialsync.app/fundraiser/cr-nzymxvnokwdn?currentTab=feed. Year 3- PSHE- Healthy Choices & Big Debates!

On Friday in PSHE, Year 3 explored the "Big Questions" surrounding our health and well-being. We discussed how the choices we make every day, from what we eat to how much we sleep, impact how we feel. The children took part in a debate centred on two important statements: "Children should not be allowed to choose their own lunchtime meals." "Children should not be allowed to use a computer, tablet, or phone for at least an hour before bedtime." It was great to see the pupils using such respectful language as they explored different viewpoints! They considered how blue light affects our sleep quality and debated the balance between enjoying technology and giving our brains a rest. We finished the session by creating our own "Top Tips" for staying active and improving our sleep.
