Reception: Muddy Monday
Our Reception explorers had a truly magical Muddy Monday this week as we headed out to Whitehall Park for a morning of discovery and fresh air. The forest school area was buzzing with excitement as the children’s imaginations ran wild; it was wonderful to see them transform the natural landscape into their own private playground. A major highlight was our "fire-building" workshop, where the children worked together to collect twigs and sticks, learning how to stack them just right to create their very own pretend campfires. The physical challenges didn't stop there! Many of our brave adventurers took to the skies as they climbed trees, testing their balance and building confidence with every branch. Back on the ground, the woods were filled with the sound of galloping as a group of children pretended to ride horses through the trails, turning fallen logs into trusty steeds. It was a fantastic session focused on teamwork, risk-taking, and the pure joy of being outdoors.
Blackburn with Darwen Schools Y5/6 Cross Country
This evening was Race Night 2 for the Blackburn with Darwen Schools Years 5/6 Cross Country. Team B dug deep and came away with some great placings with some of the children getting great PBs and much higher positions than in Race 1 so we are very proud of their hard work and progress- well done!
Year 6 - Pinocchio Performance
As part of this year’s World Book Day celebrations, our whole school was given the exciting opportunity to perform scenes from Pinocchio. Each year group focused on a different part of the story, working together to bring the tale to life. Year 6 explored the ending section of the story, using expressive dance and dramatic freeze frames to capture the key moments and emotions. Their creative performance helped to conclude the story in a powerful and engaging way, showcasing their teamwork, imagination and understanding of the narrative.
Year 1: Pinocchio Dance Workshop
Year 1 absolutely loved their Pinocchio workshop delivered by West End in Schools. Their part of the story was Pinocchio becoming a donkey. We are so proud of all of the children for stepping out of their comfort zone and joining in. They all had so much fun and we loved watching the story come together.
Year 5 - Pinocchio Workshop
On Tuesday, we had the great fortune of having James from West End in Schools visit the school. He taught every class a dance based on the story of Pinocchio. In Year 5, we performed a group dance depicting a ship on stormy waters crashing onto rocks and Pinocchio meeting the fairy godmother. The children loved the opportunity to dance and I was very proud to watch their fantastic performance in front of the entire school.
Year 1 PE: Jumping In Gymnastics
Year 1 practiced their jumping skills in gymnastics today. They were able to jump from different heights and use a spring board to help them with jumping. They understood the importance of landing on your feet with knees slightly bent. It was brilliant to see them being brave when jumping from the higher obstacles. Well done Year 1!
Year 2 - PE - The Great Outdoors
Year 2 used their map skills to find points on a map in the school grounds. What a lovely sunny day for the experience!
Year 2 Pinocchio Dance Workshop
Year 2 showed off their dancing skills in the Pinocchio Dance Workshop led by West End in Schools. We loved the confidence and enthusiasm they showed during the performance to the whole school.
Year 4 - Pinocchio Dance
The Year 4 children joined in with great enthusiasm during their West End dance session with James on Tuesday. They learned about how dance is a way of telling stories with their bodies. They then worked with James to create some movements to help them to tell a section of the story Pinocchio. At the end of the day, the school came together for a joint performance. Each class in turn came to the front of the hall to perform their part of the story. It was amazing to see every child give their all to their performance.
Year 3-West End Choreography Workshop-Pinocchio
Today, the entire school was buzzing with creativity as we took part in a fantastic West End Workshop based on the story of Pinocchio. Our guest choreographer, James, was absolutely brilliant, bringing the magic of the theatre directly to our pupils. The children focused on rehearsing and perfecting the second half of the story, working hard to synchronise their movements and add expressive actions to their performances. It was truly amazing to see everything come together during our final whole-school assembly, where the narrative was told through a seamless collaborative performance. Year 3 were truly in their element, showing incredible enthusiasm and confidence throughout the day. Well done to everyone!
Doodle and Dance Week 1
The children at Doodle and Dance turned a roll of wallpaper into a vibrant communal masterpiece today, filling the paper with colourful drawings of rainbows, hearts, flowers, and their favorite people and animals. The creative energy didn't stop at the drawing board, as the group quickly transitioned from artists to athletes for a high-spirited "Wake and Shake" dance session. It was a club of pure joy and imagination, leaving the room covered in art and the children full of smiles after dancing their hearts out.
