Year 4 Geography - The Amazon Basin Fact Files
Over the course of this half term, we have been studying The Amazon in our Geography lessons. Today we worked in small groups to create fact files all about different aspects of the Amazon basin. We first created sub headings which included tribes, human and physical features of South America and the Amazon river. Next the children added information to each section using their books and search engines on the Chromebook's. It is amazing to see how much they have learnt over the past few weeks and how this was brilliantly showcased in the fact files.
Year 4 English - Information Texts
Over the past few weeks in English, we have been building an information text based on The Amazon which links with our current geography unit. This week, we have been using all of the key pieces of information that we have collected and adding these to a grid which includes a page title, headings, subheadings, opening statement, diagrams. Bulletin points and text boxes. We also added in specific grammar content which included determiners including quantifiers and demonstratives, commas for clauses and paragraphs. The end product was super and the children loved sharing their examples with each other and used peer evaluation confidently.
Reception: Muddy Monday
Wow! On Monday the children in Reception blew Mrs Wilkinson's and Mrs Thompson's socks off! They walked over 2km around Jacks Key. The children listened to sounds they could hear, looked at what they could see under a bridge and used their imaginations chanting trip trap and the bear hunt story. The children had lots of fun!
Reception: Muddy Monday
Our Reception class took part in a Muddy Monday session in our school grounds this morning. They climbed trees, made mud soup and collected resources to build bonfires and dens. The children used their gross motor skills and imagination brilliantly today. Well done!
Reception: A Helicopter Discovery
Whilst playing outside, the children saw a helicopter. It was collecting water and transporting it over the moors. They were amazed and asked lots of questions to find out more about its special job.
Year 1 Geography: Signs of Autumn
Today we took a trip to Whitehall Park to spot some signs of Autumn. The children did a brilliant job at finding conkers, acorns, yellow and orange leaves, berries and empty branches. We tried to stay really quiet to spot a squirrel but we had no luck. The children loved collecting the conkers and acorns too!

The children in Reception class had a fabulous first Muddy Monday session. They built dens, created bug houses and enjoyed making potions together. They showed super team work skills and their imaginations were running wild. Well done Reception!
Year 3- R.E- How do people celebrate harvest around the world?
Today in R.E., Year 3 investigated how people around the world celebrate the harvest. We began with a class discussion to share our own experiences and understanding. Following this, the children wrote in their R.E. books, noting down some of the wonderful traditions we discovered. The children were particularly fascinated to learn about the different ways people show gratitude for the harvest. In the United States and Canada, Thanksgiving is a major national holiday celebrating the harvest and blessings of the past year. It is celebrated with a large family feast, which traditionally includes a roast turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie. It is a time for people to gather and express gratitude for what they have. The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival, is one of the most important holidays in China. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is at its fullest. Families gather to give thanks for a bountiful harvest and to pray for a good future. A key tradition is eating mooncakes and lighting colourful lanterns.
Y4 English - The Explorer by Katherine Randell
In English today, Year 4 focused on using adverbials for place. We learnt that a fronted adverbial is when the adverbial word or phrase is moved to the front of the sentence, before the verb. The children worked really hard to collect adverbs and then add a comma to start their sentences. Next they used key events from the start of the story to finish their up levelled sentences, correcting along the way with their purple polisher.
Year 4 Geography - Where is the Amazon?
In our first geography lesson of the year we have been focusing on the Amazon rainforest. Today we located the Amazon on a map and considered the significance of its location. We then went on to find out that Brazil is South America’s biggest country. Finally we added the Amazon to a map of the world along with the equator, tropics, continents and oceans.
