Year 6 English
Year 6 started work on their detective narrative this week. They have started to analyse conventions of a detective narrative and discussed the use of red herrings, which are intended to be misleading and create more excitement for the reader.
Year 6 P.E.
This week, year 6 started their rugby unit and looked at developing their passing skills. They explored receiving the ball and how your arms should swing from one side of your body to the other until your hands are pointing at the intended target. They took to this superbly and focused on technique even when they were challenged with a time trial. Well done year 6!

Year 5- PSHE- Growing and Changing
During our PSHE lesson on Growing and Changing bodies, we explored various types of feelings and how words can impact people. As part of an activity, we played emotions bingo. Each child was given a card or shared one with a partner. I randomly called out emotions from a list, and the game continued until someone exclaimed, "Bingo!" Throughout the game, it was interesting to observe if there were any emotions that the children had never encountered before. We finished the lesson by saying, "I always feel happier when..." This made them think about things that make them happy. It was a way to help them understand their own feelings better.
Craft club
On Monday in craft club we made badges for Father’s Day. We had a lovely first week in craft club and are looking forward to next week.

Reception Outdoor Fun in the Sun
The children have enjoyed their morning playing outside. They enjoyed playing in the water area, the trim trail and the dinosaur small world area. The have also enjoyed dressing up and mark making using the chalk. We then sat in the shade and read a story about zoo animals, and talked about our previous trip to the zoo.
Year 5/6 Cricket Team
Huge congratulations to our year 5/6 cricket team who played in the Darwen schools cricket competition. They won 2/3 games in their heat and narrowly missed out on the finals. Well done to all the players who have represented the school well and played some outstanding cricket.
Reception: Blackpool Zoo
Reception class had a brilliant time at Blackpool Zoo. They saw Orangutans, gorillas, penguins, sea lions, elephants, lions, flamingoes, aardvarks, camels, tortoises, giraffes and we also went on a dinosaur safari! The children’s behaviour was exemplary and it was lovely to put our learning into context.
Year 5 - Science- Identifying the key stages of a mammals life cycle
In Science, the children discovered that most mammals have very similar life cycles. They learnt that humans have similar life cycles to other mammals, making comparisons to dogs. They explored the key developments during each of the stages of the human life cycle - foetus, baby, child, teenager/adolescent, adult and old age and demonstrated their understanding by drawing the human life cycle. They then created a list of as many different mammals as they could think of and conducted some research on the gestation periods of different animals.
Forest school
Today during our Forest school club we have had so much fun exploring our Forest school area, adding to the existing dens and decorating them. The children also played games and climbed trees. We tried to keep the children in the shade as much as possible, we also had regular drink and fresh fruit breaks. We’re already looking forward to next week!
Year 2 - Blackpool Zoo Trip
Year 2 went to Blackpool Zoo to look at all the amazing animals and habitats. They were treated to an incredible Sea Lion display that showcased all their brilliant tricks and demonstrated how clever they are. We explored the big cats exhibit, giraffes and elephants. We also explored the world of the dinosaurs and learnt all about their existence and habits they used to live in. This fed nicely in with our new science unit - animals survival and growth and in many of the exhibits we learnt about the different stages of animal life.
