Year 5 - Class Worship - Community
Today for class worship we looked at our British Values of tolerance and respect. We discussed our roles in the community and what we may have done to help others. We looked at how the community in Turkey and Syria have come together after the tragic events of the earthquake to ensure children are still able to go to school.
Year 5- Science- Exploring factors which affect an object's ability to resist water
This afternoon in science the children learnt that water resistance is a force which prevents an object from moving easily through the water. We tested whether air resistance or water resistance is stronger by dropping different shapes of clay, from the same height through water and the air.
Whole School Celebration Worship
In our Celebration Worship this morning we commemorated Year 6's trip to London, as well as the wonderful achievements of our pupils across all year groups. The class teachers gave out awards to pupils who have demonstrated our Christian values such as kindness, respect, and courage. We recognised the hard work and dedication of pupils who have excelled in various extracurricular activities, including our recent swimming gala and the Year 4 children for being brave and showing courage at Junction 4 skatepark. We also awarded the amazing attendance award to our Year 1 and Year 3 pupils, who have shown a commitment to their education and a passion for learning. Congratulations to the yellow team (Darwen Tower) for gaining a total of 317 points. This is a great achievement and a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. Well done and keep up the good work! We are incredibly proud of all our pupils and their accomplishments, and we know that they will continue to achieve great things. We want to thank Rev Ben for leading us in prayer and for reminding us of the importance of faith and community in our daily lives. To celebrate our students' achievements, we sang "Shine from the inside out," a fitting tribute to the incredible talents and hard work of our pupils.

Year 5- Science- Egg Zip Line Challenge
The Year 5 scientists had a fun science afternoon. They made parachutes to learn about air resistance and tried out egg zip lines. They made special harnesses using pipe cleaners to safely transport eggs down the zip wire. It was a great way for them to learn about science and engineering whist having fun!
Year 5: Collective Worship- See with your heart
During our class worship today, we explored a text about the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, which provides trained guide dogs to people who are blind or visually impaired. They rely heavily on volunteers who help to raise and train the dogs before they are matched with their new owners. The children then participated in a drawing activity while being blindfolded. It was an experience that helped them understand what it might be like to navigate the world without sight. This created an awareness about the challenges faced by the visually impaired. We ended our class worship by singing ' Light up the fire'.
Year 5- P.S.H.E- Our Emotional Needs
The children worked in pairs to design their own character who is the same age as them. They then discussed the needs of their characters, thinking about their strengths and weaknesses, what they like and dislike and how their character feels about themselves. We then explored situations which we don't find easy and created examples of positive coping strategies. These included; speaking to somebody about how you're feeling; writing down your worries if they're on your mind a lot of the time-some people find this helpful.
Year 5- Explanation text about Volcanoes and Earthquakes
Over the course of two weeks, Year 5 has learnt the features of an explanation text and written their text all about earthquakes and volcanoes. They have used their learning from their Geography lessons. They have explained the cause of earthquakes, identified famous volcanoes and explained the short and long-term effects of natural disasters.
Year 5 French - Names of Food and Drink
Today in French we have carried on learning the names of food and drink. The children were able to sort all the items into the correct categories.
FOSB Mother’s Day Cream Tea
Thank you to all of our wonderful special ladies for attending our Mother’s Day cream tea. A huge thank you to our wonderful FOSB. They are all volunteers and juggle work to make the events a huge success. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes and it is really appreciated by us all. We are very lucky to have you. If anybody would like to help volunteer for any events then we would be really grateful. We hope you all have a wonderful Mother’s Day on Sunday.
Science Club- Colour mixing experiment with Year 1
A huge THANK YOU to the children in science club yesterday lunchtime for leading such a fun experiment! They led a colour mixing experiment using skittles. It was so much fun!
Year 5 - Science- Investigating Force and Air- Resistance
Following on from our previous science lesson, today the children worked in small groups to investigate whether a ball's mass affects gravity's force. They used weighing scales to measure the mass of 5 different balls, then from the same height observed how long they took to touch the ground. Only one variable was changed to conduct a fair test. The children changed the ball. We then explored the term Air- Resistance in detail and carried out an experiment using two sheets of paper. We screwed one up into a ball and left one as a sheet, we then dropped the ball of paper and sheet at the same time and observed what happens. The sheet of paper fell slowly as there is more air under the paper.
Let’s Go Sing Performance 2023
A huge well done to our school choir for their fabulous performance at the let’s go sing concert tonight. It was a delight to watch you all sing your little hearts out. Thank you so much to Miss Ashworth and Miss Bentham for their commitment to our choir. Thanks to all of the parents, family and friends who came to show their support. I’m sure the children made you so proud as I know they certainly made me the proudest Headteacher ever. Well done you little superstars!
