Whole School Worship - The Value of Kindness

Today, our whole school worship was focussed on the value of kindness and our Kindness Kite of God rewards kindness. We talk about kindness frequently at St Barnabas, especially as it is one of our 4 Be’s. As we came into worship, a video was playing that showed how kind acts affect the recipient, prompting them to pay the kindness forward so that it spreads. The children spotted some acts of kindness in the video and linked these to the charitable activities we have taken part in as a school family recently. Mrs Ham read some motivational quotes and we all acted out sprinkling a glitter trail of kindness and throwing around kindness like confetti. She then showed us the story of The Good Samaritan and explained that showing kindness isn’t something we reserve just for our friends and family; it’s for everyone. Quotes from the Bible about kindness were read brilliantly by Matthew, Darcy and Charlie from this week's Kindness Kite. We then spent some time reflecting on how we will show kindness this week and beyond, and we finished by singing one of our favourite songs, Rich in Kindness.

Year 4 - PE: Throwing to a Target

The Year 4s are a competitive bunch, particularly in dodgeball sessions. This week our character development focus was ‘respect’. We briefly discussed how we can respect our opponents as well as our teammates. We spent some time practising throwing a ball through a hoop using an overarm throw. We then applied this skill in a game of ‘Cross the River’, in which a team had to get all their players across the hall without being hit by the dodgeball. Many of the children demonstrated their target practice to great effect, managing to get out multiple people.

Year 4 - Class Rules

The Year 4s were introduced to the 'walking gallery' activity this week. We talked about what our 4 school rules meant and the children had to walk around the room adding examples of each behaviour to the posters. Some of the children wanted to add non-examples too as a reminder of what not to do. These ideas will be collated into our rules posters that will remain on display in the classroom throughout the year.

Year 6 - Anti-Bullying Live Lesson

At the beginning of this week, Year 6 took part in a PSHE lesson and a CBBC live lesson that focused on Anti-Bullying Week. The theme this year is ‘Choose Respect’. Year 6 were made aware that disagreements are actually a natural part of life and that we can’t avoid them. However, what we do have control of is the ability to be respectful when we have a disagreement. If we manage to do this, a resolution is easier to find.
