Reception: How do Muslim’s pray?
Reception loved their visit from Miss Kachwalla. She explained all about how Muslim’s pray and showed some of her prayer mats. Miss Kachwalla also showed the children what she has to wear and tried a Burkha on for the children to see. The children then decorated their own prayer mats.
Rev Ben Worship: Ascension
Rev Ben began his worship with a game of charades. We watched the bible story of the Ascension. When Jesus went up to heaven, it made his followers sad. However, Christians believe it is a good thing as Jesus is not limited to one time and place. Everyone, everywhere can speak to him. Jesus is always able to help us. Rev Ben asked us to think about how Jesus serves us from heaven and how we might want Jesus to serve us today. Rev Ben blew bubbles for his prayer time. As he blew the bubbles, we remember how Jesus will always listen to us as he can always hear us because he is in heaven. We ended our worship by singing Waymaker.

Year 5- R.E- Bible Detectives
In our R.E. lesson this afternoon, we embarked on an exciting journey as Year 5 Bible Detectives, exploring what happened after Pentecost. The children worked in pairs, diligently skimming and scanning Acts 2-5. They showcased exceptional skills in locating key information and piecing together the narrative.
Year 1- Mock Baptism
This afternoon, Rev Ben welcomed us into St Barnabas Church to experience a baptism first hand. Rev Ben baptised baby Ben Barnabas and made the parents, godparents and other guests make promises to look after Ben and teach her to be kind and respectful. We also made a promise to be good role models to her. Rev Ben showed us the font and blessed Ben with the water to symbolise that he had been baptised. Rev Ben told us that it isn’t only babies that get baptised but you can in fact be baptised at any age. Rev Ben also showed us the baptism candle which represents the light of God and the bible you get given when you’ve been baptised. We said thank you to Rev Ben for showing us what happens at a baptism and making us feel so welcome. We then went back to school and had a little party to celebrate Bens baptism. We enjoyed a drink of juice, a cake and played some fun party games.

Year 1 have been drawing and painting their own version of a baptism or christening as part of our current RE topic. They have included a child being christened, the vicar, godparents, family and friends.
Rev Ben Worship: Kings Coronation
Today, we thought about the kings coronation. We began our worship by playing a game. The teams from years 5 and 6 had to get their captains ready for the kings coronation. The children voted for their favourite and it was an even split. Well done to all of the children for being great sports! Rev Ben asked the children to think about what makes a good king. The children said the king has to be kind, generous, honest, dedicated, responsible and respectful. In the bible, Jesus explained how a king is a servant. King Charles needs to serve by showing justice and mercy just like Jesus did. Thank you to Rev Ben for leading our worship today. We are looking forward to our coronation celebrations in school this week.
Year 4 - Taking on the Hop, Skip, Jump Challenge
Year 4 class donned their Easter crowns and took part in some hopping, skipping and jumping challenges for East Lancs Hospice.
Reception: Prayer
As part of our new RE unit, Reception have been learning about the importance of prayer. We looked at why we pray. Marley said it is so that God can listen, Mila said to thank God for everything he has made and Eddie said so that we can talk to God. We thought about the different types of prayer and said prayers using pipe cleaners. We then hung our pipe cleaners onto our prayer tree.
Monday Worship: Looking after God’s World
Mrs Ham showed the children the big frieze and focussed on the creation. This morning we thought about Earth Day and God’s creation and had a think about all of the things that are damaging God’s creation. We threw globes around the room to think about how we are damaging our Earth. We watched a video of Greta Thunberg who is helping our world. Greta challenged world leaders to take action on climate change. Greta shared some advice to help look after the world and the children shared their ideas of how we can make a positive difference. Finn said “we can stand up for what is right”, Hamza said “use both sides of paper”, James said “stop throwing litter on the floor”, Darcy said “turn the tap off to save water” and Annabel said “switch off the lights”. The children looked through a bin and had a think about what they could do with the items instead of just throwing items into a bin. Eliza chose a bottle. Some of the children said they could use it for junk modelling, you could reuse it or you could use it as a bath toy. Harriet chose a Maltesers box. The children suggested you could use if to make a fairy house or a puppet. Harry chose a plastic bag. Ella said that you could use it as a bin bag and Scarlett said you could reuse it when you go shopping. Rosie chose some paper and the children discussed how it could be used to make a paper aeroplane and then put into the recycling bin. This week, Mrs Ham asked us all to think about how we can help to protect God’s creations and how we can protect our world. We finished our worship by singing ‘God’s world’.
Year 5- R.E- Easter- A visit from Rev Adam
We invited Rev Adam to our class worship today. He shared the life of Jesus which was represented on a cube. Each picture on the shape demonstrated the life of Jesus. The children were able to ask questions that they had prepared earlier. Before leaving, Rev Adam read the 'Ascension Day' which celebrates Jesus's ascension to heaven after he was resurrected on Easter Day.
Year 2 - Pentecost
During our RE lesson we have been following on from the Easter Story. The children acted out and understood the messages that were told and celebrated during the Pentecost. Children explained what an important celebration it is in the Christian calendar and now it is considered to be the birth of the church.
Spring Chicken = Mrs Price
It wouldn’t be Easter at St Barnabas without a visit from the Spring Chicken! All of the staff and children had a great time singing and dancing this afternoon to the Spring Chicken song. Then we unmasked the chicken just like the masked singer by shouting ‘Take it off, take it off!’. This year the chicken was Mrs Price as this will be her last chance to join in our Easter celebrations as she is soon flying the St Barnabas nest as she has gained a promotion to Senior School Business Manager at a Special High School in Bolton. We will be so sad to see Mrs Price leave St Barnabas on Friday 21st April as she has worked tirelessly with passion and determination at our school and has supported several schools in our Trust for the last 8 years. We wish her all the luck in the world in her new role and know that she will shine, just like she has at St Barnabas. I’m delighted to announce that Mrs Howarth will be taking on the role of our School Administration Manager and will be supported in the office by a new member of our team, Mrs Cole. She is looking forward to joining our school family after the Easter holidays.
