The Great Big Assembly for Black History Month in Year 4
Today we took part in a special Worship to celebrate Black History Month. We watched a video that highlighted lots of wonderful people who have made Britain be Britain because of Black History. The theme for this special month is ‘ Honouring Our Communities’ so the presenters gave special shout outs to their dentist and local priest. Everyday Heroes: The theme shifts focus from solely celebrating globally or nationally famous figures to recognising everyday individuals whose unseen work sustains local communities. We looked at the contributions of local volunteers, teachers, NHS nurses, carers, youth workers, and community leaders. Next we took part in a quiz which Year 4 absolutely smashed! It was a great, interactive Worship which the children absolutely loved.
Year 5 - Money Skills
Miss Burnside from Debt Aware visited the class on Monday afternoon to introduce the children to managing money. They started off by discussing the difference between a want and a need by considering how essential to living different products and services are. Then the class considered borrowing and the difference between good and bad debt before identifying money saving tips such as turning lights off when not in use.
Year 3 - Live Author Session
On Tuesday, Year 3 class took part in a live author session on Zoom provided by Picture News. We heard from a number of authors including Jon Lock and Nich Angell, co-creators of the Tiny Hercules book series, and Dadbot author Jack Noel. During the live session, the children had the opportunity to ask questions and take part in challenges, but their favourite part was drawing Tiny Hercules and then creating their own character.
Year 5 - Art Exhibition
On Friday Afternoon, we had the opportunity to visit the Art Explora Mobile Museum in Darwen town centre. We received a guided tour of the exhibit and had the opportunity to explore and enjoy a wide range of art forms including film, photography, sculpture and paintings. We then made a collective piece of art, using charcoals to create a seascape populated with real and imaginary creatures. What a great end to a brilliant first week in Year 5! 😃
Year 4 - RE: Church in the Park
To complete our RE unit on places of worship, the Year 4 children learned about Peter ‘The Rock’ and how he started the Christian Church. They explored statements about the Church and decided which they thought were the most important. The children learned that the term ‘Church’ has become synonymous with the place of worship, but that most importantly, the Church is the people gathering together to worship God and Jesus. With this in mind, we decided to take our ‘Church’ to Whitehall Park. We created a short service led by the children and decided on the essentials we would need in order to deliver the service. The children enjoyed creating crosses using natural materials, listening to Bible stories, hearing sermons and saying prayers linked to these. There was a bit of time left at the end for us to enjoy the playground too.
Celebrating a Fantastic Year in Year 3
This afternoon, Year 3 lived life to its fullest with a trip to the park! They had the best time playing and relaxing before we break up for the summer. This treat was so well- deserved; every single one of them has worked their absolute hardest in Year 3 this year. We are so proud of you all!
Year 5 - Circus Skills
Year 5 had a special opportunity to sharpen their circus skills this week. Everyone had the chance to participate in a range of activities such as: acrobatics, stilt walking, unicycle training, feather balancing, plate spinning, rhythm gymnastics and juggling. A great time was had by all!
Year 6 - Careers Day
Today, Year 6 celebrated the RotaKids Careers Day, with the children dressing up as the careers they aspire to have in the future. It was fantastic to see such a wide range of ambitions, from athletes and teachers to doctors, engineers, police officers and many more! Throughout the day, the children explored the importance of setting goals, working hard and showing resilience to achieve their dreams. The children discussed the skills, qualities and determination needed for different careers before creating informative and creative posters showcasing their chosen profession and the steps they can take to make their aspirations a reality. It was an inspiring day that encouraged the children to think positively about their futures and reminded them that, with dedication and perseverance, they can achieve great things.
RotaKids Careers Day Whole School Worship
Today our Whole School Worship was a little bit different as it was our RotaKids Careers Dress Up Day. All of the children and staff were dressed in their own clothes, showing what they want to be when they grow up. Mrs Ham started by asking the teachers to parade in their outfits. We had an astronaut, a singer, a doctor, a vet, a paddle coach and a baker. The children followed on and each class showed off their outfits too and there was such a range of career choices with lots of vets, hairdresser and footballers. After the parade, Mrs Ham selected the most unusual outfits and asked the children to guess what the children would like to be when they grow up. We had everything from DJ Jenson to King Jonas. It was a super Worship and we hope that today helps to broadens the children’s horizons, sparks curiosity, and helps them to link their skills to future opportunities.
Future Leaders: Year 3 Take on Careers Day
Today was the whole-school Careers Day led by our RotaKids, and our Year 3 classroom was absolutely buzzing with inspiration! The children looked fantastic dressed up as their future selves, either stepping into their parents' roles or showcasing their own big dreams for when they grow up. It was wonderful to see just how much ambition our Year 3s showed during this school event. The future looks incredibly bright with such a talented group, including doctors, nurses, vets, teachers, hairdressers, actors, pilots, basketball players, architects, and engineers. We are so proud of our Year 3 students for dreaming big and aiming high.
Careers Day in Year 4
Today we took part in ‘Careers Day’ and Year 4 put every effort into dressing up in their best outfits. We had everything from artists to acrobats. As part of our day, we discussed how lucky we are to have so many career options available to us and how important our education is in relation to this. What a super day we have all had!
Year 4 - Linking Schools Visitors
It was an exciting end to our year of linking this week with St Matthew’s coming to our school to visit the Year 4 Class. We completed a number of team building activities together. Our first was building team towers using just rolled up paper and masking tape. There were some very successful structures made with strong bases and reinforced joints. In the afternoon, we headed to Whitehall Park to create pictures using natural objects. The children were tasked with creating a face to show how they feel about their year of linking.
