Year 2 R.E: Jacob's Dream
This term in R.E, we have been exploring The Church and why it is a special place for Christians. We starting by thinking about our own special places and how we feel, when we are in our special place. This week, we looked at how holy and special places are represented in The Bible, with the story of Jacob's Dream. We read the story together and discussed the key messages, such as how in Jacob's Dream, he found his special place, talking to God and dreaming about heaven. The children then created their own artwork, representing Jacob's special place.
Year 3 Class Worship - Love one another
Year 3 have been learning about the Ten Commandments and that Jesus said that if we love one another as he has loved us then we would automatically keep the Ten Commandments. The children wrote some prayers and ended worship by singing “If I needed a neighbour”.
Year 4- The Big Debate
Today we took part in ‘The Big Debate’ where we looked at the question - Should mothers stay at home and look after their children? We looked at points for why some children agree and some children disagree. The children were very mature in their reasoning, but we had the majority of the class adding that mothers should have a choice about being a stay at home mum.
Newspaper Reports- The 5W’s and 1H
In our English lesson today, we looked at identifying key points using : When? Who? Where? What? Why and How? The children highlighted and analysed these examples using the WAGOLL piece and then moved on to writing their own opening paragraph.
P.S.H.E- Jobs and taxes- Year 5
This term in P.S.H.E, Year 5 have been thinking about what jobs they might like to do when they grow up. During our lesson this morning, we looked at a eight jobs; Doctor, Car mechanic, Member of the Parliament, Football player, Receptionist, Lorry driver, Police officer and a Supermarket Manager. The children then had to rank them in order according to how much you think they should earn with the highest earning at the top. They then gave clear reasons as to why they ranked them in that order.
Year 4 Hokusai Inspired Art
In art, we have been looking at the Japanese artist Hokusai. We have been using various form of media to inspire own own pieces based on waves. The children have created some wonderful pieces of artwork using formal elements, moving towards the next stage- collage.
Reception Science - Super Sandcastles!
As part of our Science, Reception have been learning how to make the perfect sandcastle. We discussed what is needed for the perfect sandcastle and experimented with the sand to see which would make the best one. We found that dry sand doesn't make a good sandcastle as it is too soft to hold. We found that we needed to mix dry sand with water to make a paste and then pat it into a bucket tightly and smoothly - this made the best sandcastle! The children then experimented in the sandpit outside to make their own.
- Junior Jam- Year 5
In computing, the children have been detectives trying to solve a real crime that happened many years ago. They have been working in small groups watching the clues given to work out who the prime suspect is. In drama, the children have been working on stage directions to create an informed performance. The children will have an opportunity to show case what they have learnt to the class. In music this week, they have been using a variety of musical instruments with increasing accuracy, to conduct their performances.
Year 1 PE
Earlier in the week, Year 1 took part in an adventure trail as part of their PE session. They had to work together as a team to identify and recall objects that they found along the way.
Year 3 Science Investigation.- What do plants need to grow well?
In Science Year 3 have been investigating what plants need in order to grow well. After ten days of growing water cress we observed the effects of not watering, keeping the plants in a fridge, keeping plants in a dark cupboard and keeping plants on our window sill. All plants except the one we decided not to water were watered daily. Our conclusion was that plants need water, heat and light in order to grow well.
Reception’s visit to Blackpool Zoo
Reception have had a brilliant time at Blackpool zoo! They have seen sea lions, penguins, camels, birds, a crocodile, orangutans, giraffes, elephants and monkeys! We also enjoyed being explorers when walking around the dinosaur safari! What a brilliant day!
R.E - Year 5
This afternoon in R.E, the children shared their beliefs, dreams and goals in life and how they can achieve them. In small groups, they thought about the people that motivate them to keep going when things are difficult. Some of the people that motivate them are; parents, grandparents, carers, teachers, siblings and their peers. They then wrote a small paragraph about some of the things that they strongly believe in and won't give up on.
