Year 6 English - “Goodnight Mister Tom”
Year 6 have begun their new English topic this week, based on “Goodnight Mister Tom”. The children watched the beginning of the film adaptation as a “hook” into their learning, which they really enjoyed. They then looked at vocabulary linked to the book and the topic, which they then placed onto a Zone of Relevance. This was all then linked to their grammar work on expanded noun phrases and how they make writing more effective for the reader. The children are also going to be linking their English work with their History unit on WWII. In a few weeks they will be visiting the Imperial War Museum in London too to learn more.
Year 6 - R.E with Rev. Ben
Year 6 had their R.E lesson with Rev. Ben, this week. The children discussed how Christianity is rooted in Judaism and what the main similarities and differences were between the two religions. We had some very interesting class discussions and were very thankful to Rev. Ben for coming in to help us with our learning.

Reception- Year of Prayer- Paper planes
During the year of prayer we have been exploring different ways we can pray. Today we made paper aeroplanes. We went outside with them and each shouted a fear we have before flying the aeroplane to represent us asking god to help take our fears away.
Year 3- Debate- How safe do you feel online?
During our class debate, led by Ella and Alfie, the children unanimously agreed that they only feel safe online some of the time. This led to an important discussion about the steps we can take to feel safer in our daily lives. We emphasised the importance of speaking to a trusted adult when feeling uncertain or uncomfortable, as well as the need to use only age-appropriate apps and online platforms. Through this conversation, we reinforced the message that staying safe is a shared responsibility and that making informed choices can help protect ourselves and others.
Reception- Supertato independent writing
This week in class we are learning about the topic ‘superheroes’ and our book this week is ‘Supertato’. One of our challenges this week was to draw a character from the story and independently write one, two or three sentences about that character. Our reception children did a super job at using the sound mat and phonics knowledge to do this.
Year 3- Class Worship-Why do we judge people based on their appearance?
During our class worship today, we watched this week's Picture News about a football team that launched a campaign to support young players with short hair. This came after a junior girls' team faced accusations of "cheating" when opposing teams and their supporters assumed they were fielding boys. To show their support, York Railway Institute AFC's women's recreational squad created a social media video where players wore T-shirts with the slogan: "Girls can have short hair – get over it." The junior players, aged 11 and 12, shared that these comments upset and frustrated them. Kate White, from the women's team, expressed how unfair the situation was, saying: "It's been horrible. It's the girls' basic personal choice it’s who they are. Some girls have short hair, and this singles them out when they don’t need that." As a class, we then watched a short clip of two girls playing football. However, because they had short hair, some people mistakenly questioned their gender. This led to a discussion about why we sometimes judge people based on their appearance whether it’s a person, a book by its cover, or a film by its trailer. Naomi shared her own experience from Year 2 when she was hesitant to talk to Albert at first. But once she got to know him, she realised they had a lot in common. Now that Albert is no longer here, she misses him. We then explored a Bible quote that reminds us, as people of God, to see beyond appearances and treat everyone with dignity, love, and kindness. We also reflected on Martin Luther King Jr.'s powerful words: "I look to a day when people will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character." To conclude, we thanked God for loving and accepting us just as we are, and we prayed for the ability to see beyond appearances and recognise the true worth in every person.
Reception- Identifying materials
In class we have been identifying different materials. We have looked at wood, metal, plastic, paper and fabric. In groups we had a look at the objects in the tuff tray using a magnifying glass, we identified them and said why we thought the object was that material.
Year 4 - P.E. Teamwork
On Tuesdays this half term, the Year 4s will be developing orienteering skills. This week was all about teamwork and trust. We played some games that required each group to work as a team in order to achieve a common goal. The hoop challenges involved passing the hoop round the circle without letting go of hands. The bench challenges involved the children swapping places with each other without stepping off the bench. All challenges required a clear plan, trust and support. The children were definitely demonstrating these qualities by the end of the lesson.
Year 4 - English: Verbs, Adjectives and Adverbs
Our new English unit started with a bang on Monday. We watched a clip from the London New Year’s Eve firework display and noted down a variety of verbs, adjectives and adverbs to create our own word banks. Once we had these we used the words to create a fast poem to describe how fireworks move and create patterns in the sky. Some of the children were also chosen to read out their fabulous poetry to the class.
Year 2 - English
In English this week we have started to read our new book. It is called ‘THE KING OF SPACE!!!’ It is a very exciting book about a boy called Rex who has big plans to conquer the universe. Today we read the first half of our book and explored any new vocabulary we came across. One word we chose to focus on was conquer. We defined it, founds words with the same meaning, found words with the opposite meaning and wrote our own sentence using the word conquer. After that, it was the children’s turn to practice their reading. Now because The king of space is rather exciting, we tried hard to put lots of expression into our reading and sound like an evil child genius about to take over the universe. We have loved reading our book and are looking forward to create our own story about taking over the universe!!!
Year 6 - Debt Awareness
Year 6 had a visit from Debt Aware, this week. The focus of this session was gambling and borrowing. The children looked at how the government and families spend money; explored the ways in which people can borrow money and why; talked about the potential dangers of short-term (pay day) loans and thought about what to look for when deciding whether to borrow money. In addition to this, we thought about what gambling is, the different types of gambling and why people might gamble. We played a few games and watched the Grand National, placing bets with pretend money.
