OAA Residential Preparation in Year 4
In our PSHE session today we looked at how we feel about our upcoming visit to an Outdoor Education Centre. We looked at what we will do, how we are supported, sleeping arrangements and much more. We are so excited about the visit but we also understand how we all have different feelings such as worrying too.
Year 2 - Science Experiment
In year 2 we have been looking at the importance of hygiene and experimenting with how easily germs can spread. We tested what happened to pepper and water when it was subjected to soap - in relation to bacteria. Children were amazed with the results and it showed them the importance of staying hygienic and to always wash your hands throughout the day.
Year 3 Multiplication
Today we have revisited multiplication as our new unit. We were looking at how many groups we had of different numbers and different ways of grouping the same amount. Year 3 did brilliantly, we talked about how working on their times tables will really help with their maths. We have also been doing extra maths challenges in the mornings to support their times table knowledge.
Year 2 - Prayer Pail
During class workshop time year 2 have been creating their own prayer topics. The children came up with some amazing ideas and we prayed for: those in need, how to be kind, how to follow is Jesus’ footsteps and prayed for our friends and family.
Year 3- Class worship
Today Year 3’s class worship focused on managing our feelings when we are under pressure and how we can do our best when we feel under pressure. We held a class discussion, highlighting what emotions we might feel and how by being brave and showing courage, we can all achieve great things.
Reception - Maths
This week we have been looking at sequencing numbers to 5. We built our own number blocks and played the game ‘who’s hiding?’ where we had to guess the number block our friend had taken away. We used our Maths reasoning to decide which number block was missing.
Reception - Pointillism
In Art, Reception Class learned all about Pointillism. We looked at examples and practised the technique using cotton buds. We knew we had to hold the tool correctly and not put too much paint on it to achieve the effect. We used the technique to create starfish, octopus and fish for a display. We loved learning all about pointillism!
Planning our class worship for Children’s Mental Health Week
Today we have been looking at how we can plan our very own worship to highlight Children’s Mental Health Week which takes place on 6th-12th February this year. The theme this year is ‘ Let’s Connect’ so we have looked at what we can do as a school community to promote this.
Year 5 - Geography- UK'S Highest Mountains
This afternoon, Year 5 have been using the atlas to explore mountain ranges in the United Kingdom and the highest peaks in each UK country.
Year 6 Life Education session
In year 6, we had a visit from Megan from ‘Life Education’ who delivered a session around making decisions. Year 6’s responses were really mature and I was so impressed with how much they engaged in the session. I think one of the main points the children will definitely take away is that it is okay to challenge your friends if you think they are making the wrong decision. It is okay to say no!
Year 6 Geography
This week, in geography, year 6 have been focusing on the most important industries to the UK. The manufacturing of cars and aeroplanes, and tourism were just some of the most important industries to the UK. We also delved a little bit deeper into tourism and located the UK’s 15 national parks and thought about the jobs that people may have if they lived within one of them.
Year 4 - Life Education Session
Year 4 really enjoyed their session with Life Education. They learned about self-value, self-care, celebrating uniqueness and when it is good to compromise. They also had a visit from Harold the Giraffe. We’re never too old for a visit from Harold.
