Today we looked into why the Amazon needs protecting. We identified some of the threats to the Amazon and why they matter. The main threat is deforestation. The children then worked in small groups to sort reasons for and against deforestation. They came across examples such as the wood is needed as it gives us products such as paper and toilet paper but a threat against deforestation could be that the Indigenous people who live in the rainforests will lose their homes! We came to the conclusion that deforestation matters to people both inside and out the Amazon and there are both sides to the argument.
