St Barnabas CE Primary School and St Barnabas Church enjoy close links.
All the children from school take part in special services in church at Harvest, Advent, Easter and at the end of the school year. The children from the acclaimed school choir regularly sing at church and parishioners lead worship in school, linked to the school’s chosen Christian values.
Our values have been selected through a whole school vote. They are:
Generosity, Respect, Service, Trust, Friendship, Forgiveness and Courage.
We welcomed our new vicar, Reverend David Bacon and his wife at the end of October after our previous vicar of 16 years, Rev Les retired. They have become active me,bears of our school family as they regularly lead Worship, attend weekly WOW group meetings, visit classes and help run Messy Church in our school.
We are a family friendly church and have, thanks to Moira and Gelnda, kept our child friendly church status.
Leaders of other groups such as Alpha, Men’s and Ladies craft group, the tots playgroup, Palm Tree (children’s church) and the youth group are available at all times to help and encourage.
The prayer team is always on hand after the services to minister to people as required and there is an active prayer chain for urgent prayer requests any time of the day or night.
The church wardens Sarah and Lawrence are responsible for overseeing the day to day running of the church.
There is a creche available every Sunday morning for the under 5s.
A regular complement of ladies and gentlemen give up their time after the Sunday 10:30am service to provide refreshments and the church is kept clean and tidy as the verger Joyce goes about her business.
There are lots and lots of other ‘jobs’ that are carried out by different members of the congregation, too numerous to mention, but each person is appreciated for what they do and I am sure are happy to be a part of the St. Barnabas Family.
